This is almost as today when you forget about the cars. Its the same bad music, the same bad politics and the same bad style.

I was not yet eleven and in my last year at junior school back then. Michael Barratt presented Nationwide. I became a Christian three years after this programme aired!

No potholes... Can't drive 10m in London now without hitting one. Britain is now bankrupt and can't afford to fix them!

I remember spending this August summer holiday working in a field pulling shlt out of the ground for a measly £2 a hour just so I could afford silent hill on ps1. It was worth it tho, great game

Theres a video game set in early 2000s London called "The Getaway". Almost exactly the same vibe driving around in that game as this video.

Compared with today the late 90's seem like a dream world... like a beautiful dream world which is lost forever and only lives on in our memories and hearts. 2020-24 seems like a nightmare compared to this beautiful footage and not just because of the pandemic, the inflation or the war in Ukraine, in general!!!! In a way the entire Western world, not just the USA, never recovered from 9/11 and is in decline since then.

I was one of the team of engineers that maintained the Elliott Automation computer systems at both Bedford sites in the early seveties. The pub in Thurleigh was our lunchtime meeting point. When we led the world, now sadly none of this survives, all those skills lost.

Was a toddler at the time so can someone explain to me why there were barely any cars? It’s impossible to drive anywhere within the city now without sitting in traffic most of the time.

On my summer holidays in 99 from school I stayed with my uncle down in London to help in his garage, this takes me back to whizzing around in their little rascal van picking up cars and parts. Meeting lots of vibrant exciting people. Was a great summer, thank you for posting this. A great time, and a vibe that has been long lost.

I watch 👀 this quite a lot, when I just want to chill out. I was around 16 or 17 when this was recorded 📹. I love the 🎶 music on the radio 📻 and the cars 🚗 following the Saab and the Volvo my friend’s mum owned one of those. It brings back so many memories. I like your accents too 😉.

Just watched the whole video with a real sense of nostalgia for a great time to be living and working in London and just how clean it looked, yes grubby but uncluttered and you could drive around easily and park right in the centre I was 32 in 1999 and a PC in the Met and I look back at how I walked the streets with just a white shirt and helmet with a pair of handcuffs on my belt and a wooden truncheon in my trouser pocket .. no tasers, guns, cs spray or bullet proof vests just a radio and a notebook needed … much much simpler times Long since left London and the police behind but still return to watch the mighty Spurs 😊and am always shocked by how few Londoners and English people there are now in the city and how much clutter there is in the roads with signs cameras restrictions and how really dirty lots of it is today It was a great place to live .. left it when I was 38 and all the tea in china wouldn’t drag me back to live there today

London was still very diverse. There were plenty of Hijabs. Most of the women in my family wore them. It was massive back then. If it was a drive through certain areas you'd most definitely have seen it. As a 36/37 year old South Asian Muslim lad, born in London, I feel very attached to this footage and the memories of London during that era.

Thanks. 1992 makes sense. Was it CGI morphing of the tiger? That was after concern about the ozone hole and acid rain subsided because action had been taken, and the public needed reassurance that global warming was under control, with the UNFCCC set up the same year. Exxon/Esso was 'ahead of the game' in its private research into effect of emissions, and then ahead of the hand in terms of spreading denial and doubt about what those effects were: #ExxonKnew. Since then the family- friendly imagery has helped keep the oil and gas flowing, killing millions of people a year just through air pollution, and risks even greater numbers through climate change. The idea of Standard Oil has outlived any usefulness. It's a vicious predator that would tear your head off without a thought.

If only it was the 1990's again. The absolute peak of western liberal societies, before the fall began in 2001. Before the internet took over. Yes things were not perfect back then, but the world was a better place.

I agree! Even if I was only a child in the 90s (born in 1991) but since 9/11 the entire Western world is in a complete decline.

Well in 1999 London’s air has been the cleanest it has been in over 7 centuries since Britain started burning coal for heating from our world in data website and it shows in 1993 the levels of suspended particulate matter was 27 micrograms per cubic meter it may sound like something but 100 years ago in 1893 in the Industrial Revolution it was 611 micrograms per cubic meter which is 96 percent higher and in 1700 before England and Scotland united the levels of suspended particulate matter was still 90 percent higher than 1993 and it did so with no Ulez no lez at all. Instead it was down to the private sector being incentivised into cleaner technology and not being punished for what they got and between 1993 and 2016 pm emissions only went down 41 percent which may sound like a lot but it only reduced concentrations of suspended pm by 10 micrograms per cubic meter and I guarantee that figure is very similar today. So London doesn’t have an air quality problem anymore for an average Londoner an average uk citizen or an average person but it does affect a small minority in London but the affect is small and can’t be accurately measured and the best that can be done for them is to get the funding for a hospital department for them to have a stronger immune system so they can handle the air quality that they are not made for yet and not punish the working class like Khan has done and if you are reading this comment and you live in London do not vote Khan on May 2 he has destroyed our capital city.

Amazing era, even though I swear the fashion was far more exciting than it looks here. Also the London streets seem pretty empty compared to now, showing perhaps the population boom in the last decade or 2. Great music on the radio - I remember it well.
