Studeren in Holland, wat werktuigbouw vervolgd door een zeevaart opleiding met nog wat maritieme bedrijfsvoering inclusief ambtseden in Hemel's beleid. Studeren had zo'n grote belofte voor het leven anders dan een smeltkroes.

RIP Pim de la Parra | Director of the 1976 movie Wan Pipel. He died today 6th september 2024, age 84. De Surinaams-Nederlandse filmregisseur Pim de la Parra is op 84-jarige leeftijd overleden. De van Blue Movie en Wan Pipel bekende regisseur stierf na een kort ziekbed in Paramaribo, meldt zijn familie.

Dank je voor het uploaden van deze film. Ben geboren in 1970 in Suriname. In 1980 naar Nederland gekomen. Had gehoord over het bestaan van wan pipel, maar heb nu pas gezien. Diana is een mooie vrouw. Maar Willeke van Ammelrooy wordt vergeten. Één van de betere actrices uit Nederland

In 1976 the Dutch movie "WAN PIPEL" came out, ... telling the story about the mutual relationship of the different ethnic groups in Suriname, however, all together, still forming One Nation. This was at a moment that I became the secretary of the Suriname Social/Cultural association Kwasiba in Breda in the Netherlands. The movie was very successful. Tulawati Devi also known as Diana Gangaram Panday or as her movie name "Rubia", was one of the main actors. I had the honor of having an intimate friendship with her for a while, always calling her Ruby, and staying in touch with her until 2008 after she was hit by a MS disease. After she left Dordrecht in 2015, she died in 2016 in Paramaribo, in her home country Suriname. I remember that together with my colleague from the Kwasiba board, Rudolf Tjon Sien Foek, we made a thousand stickers, (6 by 9 inches), with the Surinamese flag and the inscription "Wan Pipel" (one people) that ended up on numerous front doors, as a sign that people from Suriname were living in that place. The association Kwasiba made my dreams of Katanga come true. We and I had founded the experimental faculty "Post colonial Right" in 1961/63. This resulted in the creation of the association "Hakuna Matata 1961" as a protest against the crimes against humanity committed by the Peacekeepers in the Congo at that time. A separate group published the well-known books: "Le livre blanc du Katanga" and "46 hommes en colère - 46 angry men" as the evidence of multiple facts. To no avail because this faculty was closed by the Mobutu regime in 1964. Imagine "Post Colonial right" that claimed apologies from the colonizer and acknowledging their crimes including slavery, and demanding damages and rewriting of colonial history. That was an absolute nonsense. Human rights at that time was a dish that former colonizers did not like to be served... an exception was already made for the Holocaust and the Japanese crimes, while black and white segregation was still organized by laws in the United States in the same era. But with Kwasiba all of this was suddenly possible and the Dutch government learned to listen to our voices...! However, it took some decades too... ... especially after the venue of Desiré aka "Dési" Delano Bouterse... a person many of us had met during his stay at Krispijn/Dordrecht.
