I saw a jumpmaster put his boot in the back to a CW2 that hesitated on a Hollywood Blackhawk jump at St. Mere DZ. Good stuff!

Confusing. I went through over 2 decades ago. But the video shows them (1st jumper) not standing in the door, then the outside video shows them parachuting from a C130. This is odd because in a C130, the first jumper stood in the door and in a 141(jet), we didn't.

Wife came in just as I started to watch this, so I invited her to stay and watch. She declined. I get it, sort of. That was a part of my life she was never a part of. There are very few things in life I get nostalgic about, but life in the 82nd Airborne put my life on a new and better trajectory.

I started working in a skydiver A license in 2022. Made four solo jumps with an instructor during free fall. I can't even imagine having to PLF on purpose PLUS carrying a load, PLUS potentially getting shot at when you land. Skydiving canopy is maneuverable and can flare on landing. Airborne is the most courageous strong work around. Kudos to every one of you who made this leap. Most humans will never get this view of the earth. Revel in the fact you overcame fear to experience it. Blessings to ALL.

What I noticed was the chest strap on the Jump Master...looked mighty slack to me...wouldn't past my inspection. I believe the jumper in the door just lost his balance momentarily (it happens) and needed a little assistance.

With adrenaline pumping the closer he got to the door, he would've put up quite a fight if he really didn't want to jump. I spent 17 years flying herks and only saw guys jumping after red light because they didn't want to be held up.

Looks like he lost his balance they just assisted him out the door, this happens when engine turbulence enters the aircraft, this was Hollywood jump no combat gear, probably jump school.

I remember it like it was yesterday and that was Sept 1984....🤪👍 Airborne best jump was a night jump never felt the ground perfect smooth landing I used the illumination from the stars and my shadow growing shorter as I got closer to the ground the shadow hit the tips of my boots and I was on the ground...

I watched too many people fall out of the sky wrapped in their T10 canopies. This was in the days before anti inversion nets. Twice it was the jumper who exited ahead of me.

I saw one guy with a Mae West on a T-10 around 1974. He pulled his reserve, but left his legs dangling apart, and the reserve chute fell between his legs and opened up behind him, flipping him upside down, so he was coming down back first. I heard he broke his back, but not verified. Shit happens, I have two fused ankles to prove it.

1972. We received a new battalion commander, who had not jumped in 15 years. I was a 1LT and the Jumpmaster on the C-130, which the Colonel was going to make his first jump in a long time. He pulled me off to the side and quietly said, "make sure I don't hesitate in the door!" Yes, Sir. Well he was the first man in the stick on my door. When I gave the command, "Stand in the door!" He did. The green light came on and I yelled "GO." He turned around and said , "What?" My hands were on the anchor line cable and both my boots were on his ass! On the ground, he found me and was sheepishly saying I was going to go, I was. I said, Sir, I kept my promise to you. He was a great battalion commander and I was his Jumpmaster a few times more. His first jump as the BC was a running joke between us.

Airborne school 1969. The first jump was a piece of cake, I was 19 years old, fearless, and clueless as to what was about to happen. I was jumping a C-119, a real adventure. Now the second jump, that is something else, because I now knew the earth had something for my A$$!

Fun fact, you take off from Georgia but Fryar DZ is in Alabama. You knew you were close when you flew over the Chattahoochee river. I went in ‘92. I remember the flight was short and they didn’t give us any hearing protection. Before the first jump , the jump master said if you pause in the door you will get a kiwi injection, meaning a boot to the ass. It was so loud inside the plane and then complete silence. After checking my canopy you could look up and see the plane flying away and people exiting. It’s the most adrenaline I have ever had. After the 5th jump we also got blood wings on the DZ. They pinned the wings on with no backs then pounded them in your chest. I had a scar for a few years. Ah…the good ol’days when the Army made real warriors.
