I know more about the engine than the car itself butt. I know they either came 4wd or 2wd. The 80s normally had the 4.5L 1fz i6.(F meaning torque) not a really big aftermarket for them anywhere but the UAE or Dubai were people mod the literal death out of them. They are torque beasts and are pretty easy to make power out of if done right.

Hi there, yep thats me & my old mans cruiser. Havent run round a track in a while - but its done everything from full circuit, hillclimb (mt Cotton) motokhana, drags etc we just flogged it where we could. Even ran in the first World Time Attack (SuperLap Oran Park 2008) on street tyres and beat the Fast Fours magazine 200SX project build. So yeah it runs a rebuilt 1FZ with forged pistons, GTR valve springs, Tighe custom cams, crower rods, custom plenum intake, 100mm throttle body, HKS T51R SPL turb, bunch of other shit. 411kw@4wheels - negative camber, sway bars,800lb springs, Porsche GT cup car brakes & rotors, multiple oil coolers.... Sounds crazy but holy shit it brings a smile to your face, 4th gear 4wd powerslides never get old, cheers!

Must have had Graphite gaskets on the exhaust ports/header - pretty sure that's what was catching fire when the manifolds heat up.

Well, sometimes they are, when the thermal expansion warps the flange enough to make gaps between the head and the manifold. You could try and force the flange straight by having thick studs and potentially destroying the stud or thread in the head or you can just let it warp and have heavy duty springs or a fairly long pipe as a washer. The flames aren't as destructive as the very hot gases that escapes tough, since those travel much further in the engine bay before cooling down.

If you watched the video, and are not blind, you saw puffs of flame outside the exhaust manifold (which is, as name implies, a manifold to contain exhaust gasses). The failure of this particular exhaust manifold to contain the flaming exhaust gasses is unusual, and noteworthy. Hence the exagerated remark: "Was that engine on fire for a moment?" Do you not understand how exhaust manifolds work? I'm fairly certain they are not designed to leak flames everywhere.

Rotary engines literally spit fire into the exhaust pipe. Unlike their piston counterparts, there is no valve to buffer the out flow, so the flame, at high RPMS (they're probably pushing 8500-10k here) will spit out of every possible spot. As you can see, the pipes glow, if you were to hit the pipes at max RPM, they'd deform severely.

you realise it isn't being open throttled the whole time, only slowly opened until a little after it is spooling? its a drag car engine anyway, it shows you the "anti-lag" at the end too. fool.
