@@ReeRee_is_watching_you the thing is, don't underestimate personality in interviews. I know people who performed really well in Uni but lack in social skills, so they don't get hired.
@notvioletta Thank you for your understanding of my position and that you have an understanding of your privilege. What bothers me is that many of my German and white friends from abroad don't understand why I have been unemployed for so long, especially if they are male. Brits, Germans, and French refuse to admit to themselves, ignore the reality of the situation or simply don't care that: a) foreigners, especially those who are Muslim and of African descent are not equal to white Europeans, regardless if they have an EU passport, b) women, regardless if they have the educational qualifications, will usually not be promoted above white men who may have lesser education, c) knowing the language and having the credentials do not equate to being hired, and d) POC and women are allowed to immigrate 1) to do the jobs no one wants to do and 2) to have children to replace those in low status jobs because 15% to 40% of European women will NEVER have children. Those in power forget that these children work hard to earn the degrees of the natives. The result of this tomfoolery has been massive riots and protests in France and the United Kingdom because immigrants, who are now citizens or permanent residents are kept poor despite their good educations. What is so egregious is that we have been believing they would treat us fairly if we showed our hard work and loyalty. What is even more bothersome that most citizens in the EU can go anywhere in the world to find work and be respected, but that is not true in their own countries. This needs to stop.

@@fredrika27 You are right on every single point. These are all the long-lasting effects of post-colonialism topped with patriarchy. White cis straight men on top, immigrant women of color on the bottom. I should say that I am still grateful to live in 2024 vs even 20 years prior: more women are standing for themselves and calling out the system that fails them, more people are educated on immigration and colonialism. I wish the progress moved faster and we (and POC particularly) would benefit from it sooner. She is a brown woman who speaks about how patriarchy is negatively affecting everybody, and she does it in the most hilarious and humane way.

I hear you, too! The problem was that people on "student" visas were actually taking all those jobs and staying permanently; to say nothing of the highest levels of immigration in Canada's history. According to the news, the federal government has put a stop to that, so you should start seeing job vacancies. The only jobs in abundance right now seem to be in the construction industry. I would consider applying since they use a lot of robotics in the prefabricated housing sector, and it might not be as limiting as you originally assumed.
