This is a very young Spivakov performing... Thanks for posting. You should post the complete video...please. He does same in witches dance Paganini at the end of the cadenza. He recorded twice the Witches dance. Best version is the first when very young.

Si vamos a ser severos como lo son en las competencias actuales hay que decir que no está exacto. Un pasaje así podría costarle la vida en uno de los famosos concursos actuales. Esto para mí solo demuestra que las leyendas se crean no tanto por su capacidad, sino más bien por su distinción respecto a la masa. Hoy los violinistas en especial los asiáticos han logrado un nivel de precisión que resulta prácticamente insoportable de emular, cuando ya este ejemplo que vemos acá, tanto antes como hoy, resultaría una quimera. Fuera de eso, tengo que decir que admiro y disfruto más este tipo de interpretaciones más oxigemadas y fluidas respecto al "hiperrealismo masivo" que tenemos hoy, aunque este último se haya convertido en el ID que clasifica a los violinistas de calibre.

A friend of mine, a brilliant violinist, did a similar trick with the Paganini concerto, playing F# on the G string instead of the A string at the finals of the Paganini competition. Accardo told him, ‘This is not a circus,’ and he got the last prize.

In the Russian school, sautillé refers to an uncontrolled, rapid bouncing stroke, such as double or quadruple strokes per note. Spiccato, on the other hand, refers to controlled individual strokes, regardless of speed. In Oistrakh’s example, according to the Russian school, it is called spiccato because each note is executed with one stroke, which requires learning how to control the bow to execute each note. The same idea applies to the 3rd movement of Wieniawski’s 2nd or Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto etc.

David Oistrakh, che non è diventato una leggenda del violino come virtuoso, bensì per aver saputo trasmettere le sue geniali intuizioni musicali con una naturalezza senza pari, ci stupisce anche per la solidità tecnica che alcune vecchie incisioni recentemente divulgate testimoniano. Credo che lui fosse abbastanza disinteressato all' esibizione acrobatica e che la sua solidità tecnica fosse sempre secondaria rispetto alla profondità musicale, che è stata la caratteristica che lo ha reso ineguagliabile

Oistrakh was smart and persistent. He understood that he couldn’t compete with Heifetz or Milstein on technique and didn’t have the tone of Elman. However, he had a little bit of everything and developed and combined all those qualities into his unparalleled grand style. He worked like a beast even in his later days.

@@federicoparravicini9961 I am referring to their early days at the Stoliarsky school. Milstein was a super star and Elman was conquering Europe while Oistrakh was nobody at that time. It took him another 30 years to become Oistrakh as we know him.

A lot of these violin master class videos involve advice from master to student that makes absolutely no sense and impossible to follow. What Heifetz says about “more bow” is spot on. The student is clearly using bow stokes that are too small.
