Silent e tends to make other vowels "say their name" we are taught in elememtary. Tap, tape, cap, cape When it comes to ed making it a VERB, thats a little different. If you want to make TAP or CAP a verb, because theres a word with a silent e (like tape and cape) instead you add a second of their consonant, tapp, capp, before the -ed, making it tapped and capped. This is MEANT to prevent confusion with the words taped and caped which are verb forms of tape and cape. 😊 /lh /pos hope this helped someone a little bit
