Just curious why did you decide to do the spring swap while the damper was still on the car instead of removing the damper and doing it on the bench?
@AutumnCarsАй бұрын
Removal of the hydraulic damper on the MP4/650S chassis requires dealer/specialist only software and tools to depressurise and pressurise the system.. I did the job with hand tools :) You can remove the dampers on a 570S to do the job.

Good video but the high speed time lapse is a bit annoying. Would be better to show it at a slower time lapse if possible or fast in stages, like when actually undoing a bolt but real time locating it etc. Don’t forget, we can always skip through stuff we don’t need with the progress bar Thanks anyway though, it was still helpful. Just a side note, psychologically, watching something at high speed with “truncated” dialogue that you are trying to learn from makes you feel impatient and anxious and that there is a huge amount of work being sped because it takes so long, which is off putting to anyone contemplating the job. A real time video presented calmly but concisely is much easier to watch and draws you in. So don’t worry about a video being too long if it is real time work being done. What is boring is when a video is padded out with unnecessary chat that does not contribute to the job in hand, people like myself who watch these type videos have no time for KZbinrs who take ages to get to the job and keep digressing (eg I used have a different car and that had a so and so instead of this but I had to sell it because yada yada yada!) but have all the time in the world for relevant detail. Cheers.

Hi boys! I'm a bit late to the part 1 and 2 videos on the Fiat 500. This is exactly the job I'm on at the moment but on a 2014 Ford Ka which is the same engine. I'm not a mechanic but have what can be described as a healthy interest in mechanics. I've changed the head gasket but I've lost the timing through one thing or another. I've locked the crankshaft with the tool but I'm finding it difficult to find the correct position to lock the camshaft in. It's trial and error at the moment and I've put it back together twice only to find it not running correctly. As you said, at least I can't damage the engine getting it wrong dur to it being non interferrence. Gaz.

By the way guys, I know this has gone belly up a bit more than the belt but just a heads up. You say this is a non interference engine, it isn't, the old 60 bhp 1.2 was but this has the 68 bhp, low emissions engine in it like my 2011 Panda. I don't know what they did to get it to the lower emissions but whatever it was, it changed it into an interference engine.
@AutumnCars9 ай бұрын
Whoa! Should have done a little more research then haha! Good thing I got the timing right (spoiler alert), but it didn't matter anyway hahah, watch out for Part 2 and probably 3!

Increased compression rate.. which increases efficiency. You can only increase compression ratio by making it into an interference engine, hence all modern engines are interference now.
@graemew70019 ай бұрын
@@khalidacosta7133 Thanks for that because I've often wondered about that one. I checked when I bought the car thinking as the guys did and when I found out that it was interference I changed it to be on the safe side.
@graemew70019 ай бұрын
@@AutumnCars Must admit I thought the same as you guys but checked to be sure and I say below, when i found out I changed it to be on the safe side. I'm sitting on 117k now after 3 years and its running sweet, using about 100 ml of oil every 1k, top it once a month, it can vapour oil out at that rate so i'm happy enough with it. They're a bloody good engine when looked after right.
@khalidacosta71339 ай бұрын
@@graemew7001 Most engines have been inteference due to lower fuel consumption for a long time, since the late 80's and early 90's. Even at this age, the only reason it wasn't is because it would have been designed for use in poorer countries where fuel quality is worse. (you don't want auto-ignition and cheapest way to combat this is to reduce compression, which reduces efficiency). The engine, looked after though, should be bomb proof. I've seen how people drive in these countries but the cars seemingly never die!
