Hi, i was trying solarwinds NPM trial and while discovering devices my Access Point's IP is discovered just as an unknown device and i could not find the name which says AP so i really need your help any suggestions?
@itopsguy3050
@itopsguy3050 10 ай бұрын
Chances are your node was discovered by ICMP instead of SNMP. ICMP or ping only will only tell you if the device is up or down. You will want to use SNMP in order to get device statistics like the make, model, serial number, CPU, memory and disk or flash information.

@@tsegazeabfantu5795 did you configure your WAPs SNMP settings and supply those values to Solarwinds for the discovery?

In the video you mention that you setup your "node" via snmpv3 account called "snmpuser" but that is simply a polling method, not related to traps. Where did you explain how to setup traps or did I miss that entirely?
@TheVANS420
@TheVANS420 Жыл бұрын
I guess where I'm confused is....traps are not polled they are sent to a trap receiver, aka SolarWinds Main Polling Engine for example.
@itopsguy3050
@itopsguy3050 Жыл бұрын
@@TheVANS420 the configuration for traps will be different on every device. On the QNAP I was testing with, all I had to do was specify the IP address of my Solarwinds server. That should be the same on nearly any service

Really good video! btw, you know about how to configure an alert for OSPF Neighbor State change?
@itopsguy3050
@itopsguy3050 Жыл бұрын
Thanks @joseallego03! To configure an OSPF Neighbor Change Alert, it will be a few steps to make that happen. The first thing you'll need to make sure happens is that it is being logged to the router. Once you've determined that, you can setup a syslog rule that watches for that event pattern. I use BGP for my routing protocol, but the condition of my alert is as follows: IF Message Contains %BGP-5-ADJCHANGE AND Vendor Is Equal To Cisco Your message type might be %OSPF-#-ADJCHANGE, but your router logs will tell you for sure what the pattern is. Once you are collecting that information, you can setup an alert as you would normally to capture that event and process in the manner you prefer (alert, email, escalation, etc). Hope this helps!

@pahadirahi - That's a great idea. I'll have to re-build my environment to do it. Unfortunately, Solarwinds only gives you a 30 day trial. I might be able to leverage my professional relationship with them to get an extended trial - let me check with them and see what they can do for me.
