Heard this for the first time today. I thought it was Jim Morrison singing. .

This is the greatest song I've ever heard. It genuinely blows my mind the level of genius

In the early 90s, as a student, I had a one night stand with this really cute girl, after a chance meeting. When we got to her place, she had a pet hamster. "It's called Psychocandy", she said. "Oh, named after Jesus & Mary Chain!?" I asked. "Yes!", she said a tad surprised. I must admit I'm not a 100 % sure that I rember her name, but I remember her and hope she's doing great.

The vocal melody is very similar to Mr. Tambourine Man. I think this is a genius use of the melody. Completely unexpected, but works so well!

Amazing you spotted that, because you're exactly right. My wife recently said she thought they were Dylanesque (not her word), and I told her I always emphatically saw the two sounds connected. My brother disagreed, and I never heard anyone else say that, so now that's two!
@ComradeMarx1017Ай бұрын
@@RSBurgener Well, it makes sense - I mean, they were influenced by Lou Reed (the Velvet Underground) who was inspired lyrically by Bob Dylan. In fact, the early "Ludlow" tapes of the Velvet Underground demos sound exactly like someone trying to imitate Bob Dylan. It all makes sense in my head, lol

The groove in this song is so scary that it's addictive. Powerful, brings many images to the mind. Iggy is a king, and he sings with all his soul and devil on this one.

This is indeed one of my favorite songs. By the way…give me that-number.” Is this funk-sludge? Where’s GRACE? ANDY? DAVID? I always extinguished my cigarettes by crushing it in my left palm. Back to work.

The final 30 seconds of the song sound like the dawn of the Industrial genre.

I was chatting with a guy a few years after this, and he said he was into industrial music. I referenced this song (and album) and Throbbing Gristle, and he just looked at me like I'd grown a third eye. He'd never heard of either. He meant Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire & so on. I should have taken that as a warning to run away :)

Iggy and Bowie were coming off deadly destructive coke addictions (and availing themselves of smack) when they were making these records (Low & The Idiot) I can see a darkened studio...little red L.E.D.s on a briefcase sized synth....staying up all night....night after night...listening to the playback...playback. The guitar sounds like someone is chewing it up and spitting it out....then that slightly off key synth line to close it off...bloody hell....I'm goin' out of my mind....again....and again....and again....
Es como ser ameba, ni anverso, ni reverso.........El Angel Eléctrico jamás se fue, sigue más vivo que nunca......

I'd really like to know who the rhythm section is that is on this track? Is it Murray/Davis? Are all guitar parts played by Bowie or is Ricky Gardiner on this? Also, what synths are used here? VCS3 and Mini--Moog? Does anyone have the answers?
@ncapone875 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the synth at the beginning is ARP 2600. I am able to get it almost exactly on mine.

This track makes me think of East Berlin, Warsaw, and Moscow. This just oozes an eerie industrial sound that sounds like the Warsaw Pact countries. Iggy and David visited all three cities in'76 and how they, being two 'western' singers, were able to do so is crazy to me.
@amaro90852 жыл бұрын
right, how did they not get arrested in Russia or something for drugs or whatever, hell of a life between those two and great artists
@chialiwa5 ай бұрын
They moved to Berlin together to get clean. Iggy kicked heroin and Bowie stopped using blow. Nothing like visiting stark, dismal Eastern bloc cities to get yourself sober.

Pretty shameless rip off Bob Dylans Mr. Tambourine Man. It's not like they could plead ignorance seeing as both the Reid brothers were big Dylan fans.
