The choreography seems different from the one that usually performed by geikos/maikos in gion kobu

Apparently there is a version for maiko and junior geiko and this version is for independent geiko

It is great to be able to watch it, but this is not only MSR, but also ZNKR Iaido (Seitei Iai) - I didn't know that Sensei Mitsuzuka practiced ZNKR Iaido style. Very interesting, but it could not were filmed in early 70s - on the videa are two katas (Soetezuki and Shihogiri) which are added to this style in 1981. Regards :)

Yachio Inoue lV was a tiny woman, but she became ten feet tall when she danced, proving once again that greatness isn't measured in inches.

As a westerner, I wish I could understand the art of the kyo mai dance. If it had subtitles and gave hints at what each part was I could

@@Mean_Jean there’s a good NHK documentary about Nihon Buyo (traditional Japanese dance) and they give a very brief overview of some of the gestures and things.

@@Mean_Jean This song is called "Kyo no Shiki", the four seasons of Kyoto. It described seasonal sceneries you can see through spring to winter in Kyoto.

Spectacular performance. Graceful and elegant. Yachio IV was a master of her craft. I'd love to see Yachio V perform the same dance.

Does anyone know the name of the dance Inoue-san is performing?

It’s called 猩々. Google translate says it’s pronounced “Shōjō” but I don’t know if I trust it.

Yachio V is Yachio IV's granddaughter. Yachio IV only had sons.
I always find historic footage to be interesting. I am assuming by the noise that it was shot on some variant of 8mm cine originally. Do you know roughly when it was shot?
@francescojpn9 жыл бұрын
Supposing that it was shot when Master Mitsuzuka was in his 40s, it was probably in the late 1960s or early 70s.

My god how beautiful that dance is ! Yachiyo IV was such an amazing dancer, even her kimono moves gracefully
@OkiyaHanagata9 жыл бұрын
This is performed by Inoue Yachiyo IV at that. She's the Grand Dance Master of Inoue-ryu that created Gion Kouta. That was just spectacular. :D
