Awesome garter snakes! I do like the color of the first one! My season was finished on October 5th, seems like you've been having quite a warm October over there!

Is that the lighting or is that rattlesnake a greenish color?
@catbirdherping98576 күн бұрын
It’s partially both actually! It was a greenish color. This species can vary in color shades from chocolate to grey to green. I have seen videos of NorPacs in the US somewhere that range from yellowish to reddish-orange. When the lighting is darker, they appear a darker shade of green. I found this out last year when I photographed a snake that was in the shade of a log - it was as green as a tree! When it moved out into better light, it looked more olive green! Thank you very much for watching and commenting!!

Oh wow, you’re lucky to find one out there that time so cool! The nighttime got to be really cold up there now. In Vegas we’re hitting low 50s at night.
@catbirdherping98578 күн бұрын
Yes, where this was filmed, the temps are in the low 30s at night and high 60s the day I saw these snakes. That’s in Fahrenheit. I live 3 hours drive north of there, and we have had freezing temperatures at night and a few snowstorms. Looks like an early winter 🥶

Nice! That’s a beauty. i’m getting depressed because the cold weather. The last snake I saw was on October 13 and then we hit a week of low 70s for a high. Looks like on the 23rd. We get a full week of high 80s back so I might be able to find a few more before the years over. I hope so because we’re just coming out of a week of low 50s for a low temps.

Waiting for dinner to come by? Or catching a little bit of sunshine?
@catbirdherping985710 күн бұрын
Catching some sun, biologists believe basking helps them digest their last meal so that they can empty out their stomach before brumation. If they have food in their stomach when they start brumation, it will rot and poison them, causing death. Thanks for watching and your comment!

How lucky to capture not only 1, but three in the same day! Beautiful snakes. Nice and big and healthy looking. That last one was tying itself in a knot! We are still seeing high temps around 100 degrees here in SE Arizona, so the snakes are still out, but these cool nights are reminding them to get a couple last meals before it gets really cold!

I had never heard of a rubber boa before, so I looked it up and I have to say, it is an interesting looking snake! I thoroughly enjoyed your video even if we did not see a snake. You are right, the scenery where you live is fantastic, and so is Tater! What a beautiful snake hunting companion you have!!! That Sheep Creek bridge is a very cool looking bridge. The river seemed to be running fast and high, is that the case, or was this just normal. Thank you for the video, I enjoy seeing where you live!!!
@catbirdherping98573 ай бұрын
Thank you for the nice words about Tater! He is my whole world and goes everywhere with me! It was a very nice afternoon to spend near the river, at least there were a lot of birds singing! And you are right - the river is quite high - normal for this time of year, because of snow melting in the mountains. It will drop several feet by August, when the salmon start coming up the river to spawn. Thank you very much for watching!!

Great to see a new video from you!! I love these type of videos, because this is reality! Sometimes we have targets and get them and other times we get lots of scenery pictures and videos! It’s a bummer you did find your target, but boy am I glad you made a video! That area is worth going to just for the scenery alone, it gave me the nature boost I’ve been craving, packing doesn’t give me much time to explore at the moment. Hopefully you can find a rubber boa again soon!
