Once all mine started dying, got a store to test my water , everything was good, but salinity was super high as my refractor started giving false readings

I just had the same problem a few weeks ago. Thought my salinity was good but it creeped up to 40ppm. I recalibrated with two different manufacturers 35ppm fluids. Mine are slightly bouncing back. Hope all turns out well for you.

I have a question please. I have a salt water tank that I cleaned and disturbed the sand and cause hydrogen sulfide gas. I had to quickly quarantine my clowns they are fine now, but my question is can I use my rocks again? I completely took the tank down so I need to start over.
@aquariumservicetech28917 күн бұрын
Yeah you can. Just clean them and dry them well. You can use acid if need be.

I love all the softies in the last big tank. The rock work looks too close to the glass, it must be hard to clean that glass. Do they not lose fish to that carpet anemone?

I have had some pretty nice African Cichlid tanks for over 10 years before going into reefs. There really isnt a comparison though imo. There is a difference in life and personality with salt vs fresh. I didnt understand the bias before I had salt though and though it was just arrogance of the hobby. Cant hurt getting a nice FW tank though, some planted aquascape is fun and even just a Demasoni and Yellow Lab combo tank really pops with color.

The fake rock sucks and always contributes to the ugly stage. Also don’t see much flow and don’t see much of a cleanup crew. Agree that limited use of lighting in a new tank is very important.

It would help us a lot if you could tell us what the dosage and time for the dips are? Also, ur qt process for fishes. In the most respectful way, we understand it's your business, and it's how you make money and support yourself, but , like you say, you're trying to save fish by properly qt them but you're only saving you're fishes not helping hobbyist that are loosing tons of fish by not knowing how to qt properly. BUT I UNDESTAND ITS ALL BUSINESS.😅😅😅

could you do a more detailed video on your hydrogen peroxide process how much, why you do it and so on would love to know your ways. how often are you doing the potassium chloride dip and the length of time you do it in the long run? Would you also consider a fish video how you treat and QT them and the how long and why you go that long?

I also got the isopods from TBS. It was a disaster. I caught thousands of isopods in traps over the 6-9 month process of getting rid of them. They would attach to fish but would drop off during daytime and no fish were ultimately harmed, but frustrating nonetheless.
@aquariumservicetech2891Ай бұрын
I’m sorry that happened to you. Is it all good now?
@timjohnson3913Ай бұрын
@ Thanks. All is good now (except other algae problems I have). I’ve been cirolanid isopod free for over 2 years now.
@MW-ut3dkАй бұрын
Wow that’s really concerning about the isopods… I just used the bottled pods from algae barn but, honestly, really not sure if they really make any difference?🤷🏻♂️. Did add some diversity I guess, but at least it was during a sale. Think pods just came in with the media I had for months in the old tank. Live and learn. Next upgrade I’ll probably spend less to start the cycling and reef smarter, not spend more for questionable stuff. Like that coralline in a bottle (which I didn’t use)🤦♂️
@timjohnson3913Ай бұрын
@@MW-ut3dk The pods from algae barn are safe and beneficial. There are likely thousands of different species of pods and almost all of them are beneficial. A few are parasitic and can come in on live rock.
@MW-ut3dkАй бұрын
Agree with Tommy and you, real live rock is risky due to too many potential pests. I’ve started my last 2 reefs with dry rock, seasoned media from previous reefs, bottled bacteria, and no light for 2-3 months when starting the reef. Just think of that time as time to add fish that are shy/more sensitive to bullying, cleanup crew, and algae predators of your choice. Never had any ugly stage, always had sponges and coralline grow very early to help prevent pest algae, cyano, etc. Think the sponges probably hitchhiked from the seasoned media and/or fish that were added early. Can’t remember exactly but I think BRS and/or Jake Adams talked about this method yrs ago and it just made sense to me, which in reefing is sometimes rare given all the snake oils that are being marketed…😂😂
