Maybe Job used God as some cosmic vending machine. Job does good and expects riches. He did not walk with God like Abraham he used God for good things.

I like St. Anselm's definition of freedom, he defined it as the "capacity for preserving rectitude of the will for its own sake". For Anselm a rational agent has freedom if the actions of this agent are self-initiated, free from external pressure, and, aimed at sustaining moral correctness. As finite beings that we are, and therefore of very limited understanding, I suppose that suffering allows us to clearly see our chains ..

I think one possible explanation for God saying Job spoke rightly and the friends didn't, is that God rewards/blesses those wrestle with Him. Think of Jacob/Israel wrestling for his blessing.

There was a place I would go to for a beer or a few, and sometimes a meal, after all of my exams in university. I made sure to tip well so that they would remember me and treat me well. They did treat me well, gave me samples of new drinks and food, occasionally gave me a beer or appy for free (probably illegal for alcohol but I won’t snitch haha) and let me take home glasses from their storeroom anytime I wanted. And I was friendly with all of the bar/wait staff so if it was really quiet we would chat. That’s what Nathan was talking about with tipping. Generosity is good even if there’s no reciprocation, but it is nice to see results or gratitude from generous actions. It’s very annoying to see a tip screen at most places. And I’m like Nathan in that I’ll probably tip pretty well anyway but I often wish I didn’t.

TheosU, three suggestions: request more of these incredible engagements by Dr. Kreeft, stop flashing your desperate, green banner of irritation and distraction AND don't let the kitchen/housekeeping operate machinery during production. Send out a memo of etiquette for respectful silence during filming as respect to your guest presenters. This video is amazing. It's beautiful. It's inspiring. WE WANT GOD! Please do more. There is absolutely nothing mysterious about Biblical "tongues" - and there is only one type - when referring to something spoken, they are nothing more than real, rational language(s); usually, but not always, unknown to those listening to them, but always known by the speaker(s) - it’s their native language (in some cases, it is a language the speaker has learned). _Nowhere_ in the Bible is modern tongues-speech advocated or evidenced. ‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy, nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of modern tongues-speech.

What happened to Job brought him into the portion we hear of in John/יענה as "sons of God." God speaks, Job hears. And Job has learned to accept with faith whatever God says...and repeat it. (John means "the beginning of the response of God." God does sometimes speak in a whisper so low that feels as if he has breathed in our ear. In a sense, that is exactly how it is done.)

There is another possible explanation, aside from Gods love for Job, which is obvious. Satan needed to be shown that true goodness is possible for mankind. People can do good for rewards, or they can do good because it is good. Satan had to have it proven to him that Job was a good man for the right reasons. Job's fidelity was a mortal wound to Satan. God liked what Job said. Job was undoubtedly doing his best consistently and well, and he HAD to know why he was being so brutally treated. Job's words where not 'wild', they were perfect. If a man works hard to be rightminded, generous to all, and loves God's ways, then finds himself completely alone and devastated, what could he possibly do but ask why? Even our Lord asked God why He had been forsaken. When God said, 'Who is this who darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?', I think he was speaking to Elihu, (as the prelude to His answer to Job), because Elihu had just finished spouting a whole list, several pages, of juvenile platitudes, the upshot of which was that Job spoke wrongly. God disagreed, because He says that Job spoke correctly. God permits evil for us, for a time only, and the reason is neither mysterious nor unknowable, it is simply that we always learn better from our mistakes. Elihu, from the 'Kindred of Ram' - I suspect 'Elihu' is Satan - a goat.

I don't really think the freinds of Job are right about God as God says they haven't spoken right concerning me.

My favorite answer to the problem of evil is the greek philosopher Epictetus' "What would have become of Hercules do you think if there had been no lion, hydra, stag or boar - and no savage criminals to rid the world of? What would he have done in the absence of such challenges? Obviously he would have just rolled over in bed and gone back to sleep. So by snoring his life away in luxury and comfort he never would have developed into the mighty Hercules. And even if he had, what good would it have done him? What would have been the use of those arms, that physique, and that noble soul, without crises or conditions to stir into him action?"
