Nice videos! You're making my childhood come alive! I have no idea how complicated it is but you should try doing the older WRRC Ortner rock train cars. They were like the GRR ortners but were white with the WRRC in big red letters. They came out of New Braunfels so I saw those just as often as I saw the GRR cars. There was also red / orange Gifford Hill ortners. Those came out of Bracken. ~Ricky

I’ve only seen the NS unit once though, and got treated in Giddings when they did a runaround and put the consist on the other side I set up where the turnout to get there new string of cars was and used it to readjust the consist. NS was the third in line that day. Where on the line was it?

Please excuse the off subject comment but every time I see "Thrall, TX", I'm reminded that in September 1921 Thrall received almost 37 inches of rain in 18 hours from a tropical system that stalled out over it. This set a world record for the most rain in an 18 hour period. Bet these fields looked very different then...

@@geomark8851 yes, the whole area around thrall was completely flooded. The town I live in just down the road in Thorndale was also heavily affected, and there is a photo from Taylor on what is now Old Thorndale Road. Where the flood waters washed out the road and pulled a house off its foundation.

For making prototypical, use the measuring tape in the game, and have google earth pro open and measure. That has helped out tons with getting the right distances. Other than that just play around with it and see what looks as close as possible.

Very nice, I remember scenes like this. I lived in Austin 1976 - 1984 when stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. I lived on Manor Rd near the airport. I made many visits to Hutto and Taylor. Then I only had a 35mm camera. Living near Ft. Worth in the 90's with VHS video camera in downtown at Tower "55"a HOT spot there! I made many videos now Digitized on my YT channel.👍 Was that a dog??? Lucky! Around what time did they rip the bergstrom spur from the base and cut it at montopolis? I thought it was late 70-early 80’s. Modeled most of the bergstrom spur at one point but wanted as close to scale as possible, it was modular, and each of the three sections I broke it down to were like 26 feet long a piece and had to do off play 180 turns to continue the scene.
@gailyncookMilwRR4 ай бұрын
@@jwrailve3615 I think it was in the early to middle 80's when Bergstrom was closing. They were planning to make BAFB the Austin International airport. Most changes were made after I moved to Dallas in 1984.
@jwrailve36154 ай бұрын
@@gailyncookMilwRR them severing that line to the airport/base seriously affected future commuter train connections to the airport to south Austin and beyond because now so much has been developed the former ROW past montopolis is basically not restorable to reconnect back to bergstrom. I truly believe I saw the very last train on the bergstrom spur the very first time I visited Austin, they say it was OOS by 2001 but I swear it was at night a train possibly hauled the last cars still at the industries on the line off the bergstrom spur never to be used again and I believe that was in 06. It had to have been it because I vividly remember i35 above us and the hotel to the right of us, but who knows
