Hmmm firstly, why do u think your voice sounds bad on a microphone? Is it because you think it sounds too bare? Or is it a problem with being off-key and the microphone picks them all up? (skip the next paragraph if it's not these two problems) If it’s because it sounds too bare and that’s why it sounds strange, I sometimes have that problem too! So I just sing on top of my original recording to add more depth (doubling the track). If it’s an off-key problem, and u just keep restarting your video because u sang ONE note flat, I would also just double the track to hide that hahaha. But if its multiple flat notes then just restart again. If that doesn’t fix the problem and u think you sound much better in your own room, or in the shower, just without a microphone, recording yourself with your phone camera is not a bad option at all. What phone do you have? IMO, If your voice is good, I don’t think the camera quality matters too much. Search up this popular cover called 'Margaret by Lana Del Rey' - Julia Boyle (i know she's playing the piano, but she's using her phone to record her visuals and audio as the highest quality of that video is 720p60) Now if you plan to use your phone camera to record, you can either: 1. record yourself with phone camera, with another device on the side playing the backing track. Then, only if you want, you can maybe add some light reverb to the audio file later. However, that will make the backing track also have whatever effect you put on your voice of course. If that sounds good then just do that. Then if you want, add some harmonies, some ad-libs using GarageBand or BandLab or any other recording software. OR 2. record yourself with phone camera, with another device on the side playing the backing track very softly, or use earphones to hear the backing track. THEN, after singing into phone camera (you should barely hear the backing track and only hear your voice), get the MP3 file of your voice, put that in whatever recording software u use (i use 'GarageBand', i heard 'BandLab' is good too), put some light reverb on that or whatever you want. THEN, add the backing track on top of the MP3 so the backing track sounds louder and clearer and you kinda micmic an actual microphone because now, both your singing and the backing track are clear! FINALLY, if you want, you can add some harmonies, some ad-libs...a bit of everything. So if you wanna start a cover channel, don’t let your lack of equipment stop you from putting your voice out! I’m sure it’s beautiful :) If I didn’t answer your question properly, please feel free to ask me more in-depth ones because I’m lowkey dyslexic hahaha.
