The funny thing is that it's like a Gender inverted version of the Wolverine-Jean Grey-Cyclops love triangle, only instead of Logan, it's Rogue and quite honestly it really fits and adds to her character, relating on her inability to touch anyother person without possibly killing them.

Is that Doris as a kid?
@ethenallen1388
@ethenallen1388 21 күн бұрын
As I recall, when D and Doris met in the first movie, neither one gave the slightest hint that they had ever seen or heard of each other before. If fact, Doris had been openly hostile and contemptuous of D until he shredded her whip. In Bloodlust, D seems far more world weary, and more people seem to know of him than in the first movie, implying that this movie takes place many years after the first one. I don't actually follow the Vampire Hunter D Manga, but I've heard that they don't really follow any kind of rigid timeline, so there's no reason to think that the events of one story would carry over into another. There's no shortage of blond girls and woman in Japanese Anima. Where did the idea that idea that Doris and Leila were even remotely connected come from? I think that the answer to your question is a firm no.

@@ethenallen1388 "Yes, in *Vampire Hunter D*, Leila is indeed Doris' grandmother. Doris is one of the key characters in the series, and her backstory is intertwined with Leila's, who plays a significant role in the lore and history of the series." - chatgtp 🤷‍♂️

@caiuspostumiusturrinus1024 And yet Doris did not give the slightest sign that she had previously met or had ever heard of D in the beginning of the first movie? Leila had shown herself to actually be very smart, so why would she have done something as stupid as settling down in a town where a vampire like Magnus Lee had been in residence for thousands of years?
@ethenallen1388
@ethenallen1388 21 күн бұрын
@caiuspostumiusturrinus1024 I'll be honest and say that I found the Doris of the first Vampire Hunter D movie to be a very weak, stupid and consequently boring character. I find the idea that she was Leila's granddaughter very disheartening. The damsel in distress motif may have been popular when the series was first being written, but any character could have filled that role. I don't see why Doris would have merited a recurring part in the series.

@@caiuspostumiusturrinus1024 For me, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is as much about Leila's journey as about the pursuit of Mier and Charlette. He family had been destroyed when she was a child and, as a result, she grew up thinking that revenge was all she was good for. That a hunter's life would be all she would ever know. That she would die a violent death, and no one would mourn her passing. When D stopped to bind up her wound, he started her and a path of healing. This scene was the completion of her story: she had found peace. The people of that town took her in as one of their own. She had married and started a family. She had had a peaceful death, and people had mourned her passing. D had chosen to mourn alone, but Liela's granddaughter thanked him for coming and smiled, giving him a rare moment of happiness. Why muddy the waters of such a beautiful scene with a speculation that does nothing for the story?

Good stuff here. I would like to check out Double Dealer, Turquoise Serpent was fantastic, and Shagduk... too slow for my liking but the end sparked some interest. I took Steves assholery as comedic. I also like how JB brought in 70s lore to the book. I might try to incorporate more 70s cultural touchstones on my Sword and Seventies series - at a much more rapid pace.

So I walked into my local library, and actually ended up renting this movie. I watched it today. The scene where they're sawing off the hand brought a tears to my eyes it was intense. I think it's more so because a year ago they found my best friends body in the Hudson River, and to this day they still don't know how he got there. Rumors are his own brother killed him. So the scene just made me think of my friend.

I am a 40 year old dude who mostly watches lectures and reads science books. And at the end of this cartoon, I wept. The whole grandiose stroy, with powerful beings and incredible feats was just a background. The real protagonist was Leila and the actual plot was her redemption. She freed herself from the past, from the trauma to be able to live her true life. Fantastic setting was an allegory for trauma, regret and insecurity that haunt and enslave people, and Leila is every one of us. You, me, anybody can always, always leave the BloodluSt behind and choose to be free.

The complete and hopeless exercise in nihilism that is Sapkowski's self-aggrandising novel series was quite hard to get through that I am certain most who say they *love* the books and give them 5 stars on places like Goodreads must be below 100IQ buffoons, or complacent normies who can't geniunely think for themselves. I would consider more in the future depending on what it was. I think you do do a really good job with action scenes and your descriptions definitely paint a picture. But the characters go beyond the pale and are so villainous that I would lose interest in them. I thought all the interactions with Rah and Liam and Rachel were good and I did care for them and wanted them to be alright. I thought Roy and his band would show up and kill them and that would spur Rah on, but making it Rah's choice without outside interference is probably better. But with Iron Scar, once he leaves Liam behind then it's just Rah and since he's already far beyond redemption I wasn't emotionally invested. Action scenes where I'm not interested in the outcome of them started to fall off.

@@whitepillmedia For the foreseeable future, I don't think I have anything planned where the violence is toned down, or where you could call the people perpetrating it "heroes". However my next project will be more structured and story/character driven than PB or IS was. Cheers for the review of Hollow Empire, WPM! Just a note about the epilogue of Moonlit Soul. Tarn still had both of his arms there, I think the Dungeon of the Lost One messed with your memories, ha. The epilogue for Moonlit is set just before Empire and it shows Tarn receiving Edith as a target. For Alvaro, I wrote myself into a slight corner in the timeline because he and Eburhard are on their way to the Necropolis during this book. Not to spoil too much, but he WILL be back in Book 5.

I should have re-read the Moonlit Soul's epilogue. I remembered one of the Blood Moon assassins missing an arm and thought it was Tarn but I'm wrong. I confused Guion for Tarn and he's missing a hand there. So, when Tarn got his arm cut off it made me think of the missing hand. Also, yeah it sets up his target as Edith so there's that too. Always good to have more Alvaro. Looking forward to it.

@@whitepillmedia It's all good. I can see why the Guion mix-up would happen considering the similarities, but it was more intended to be an ironic punishment for Tarn considering he engineered Guion's lost hand. Wow you totally changed my outlook on the ending. I hated it at first I hated how he ditched Nikki when his daughter and her basically wanted to switch places. But now I kind of see it as a statement on Calvinism. The daughter is saved basically by reluctant acceptance of her father’s grace, Nikki just gets fucked basically. Both are treated as victims of circumstance despite their wills. The father may be the only one who really gets what he wants but it is almost soulless and forced after his daughter’s confession - i downplayed the ending at first but i think it has layers and am confident in the filmmakers of some larger vision in there lol Also, why did he watch the whole movie? Lmfao, like the turn it off rant probably could have started within the first 5 seconds of the porno but he waited till the near end 😂 Oh and you connecting back to Star Trek and Gul Ducat made my life better thank you.
