Pine, white oak, red oak, maple, sweet gum, ironwood, dogwood, and wild cherry, all grow in the woods around the nest box - and some bamboo not far from the nest box.

Sorry to hear about the GHOs in the area. They could definitely cause a problem for the barred owls. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Yes, they are certainly occupying a much larger territory than past years. And it sounds like a pair. Whereas there was only a single in past years.

Maybe she will nest here next year. I miss her. She is such a good mother. Watching the Ridgefield owls has made me appreciate even more the parenting abilities of Mama and Papa Leesville. Great owls! ❤️

How interesting that Papa was giving his nest box hoots out in the woods -- he didn't join her at the nest box. I think hormonally she must still be in nesting mode but otherwise not going to lay eggs this year.

Papa was giving his afternoon greeting this afternoon, but no response from mama. He tried over and over at about 45 minutes interval. I guess she is out of the area again. Which has been common occurrence this year.
