I see its been awhile since you posted this, but i just got a used GMG Davey Crockett and going to do this mod. One note to Davey Crockett owners, the fuse for the power is in the power cord male cigarette plug. So if you eliminate the OEM cord make sure you add an inline fuse. Thank you for this video!

@sleddheadxp800r the way the frame of the grill is there is a large air gap all the way around that allows for adequate distance to dissipate the heat. Prior to moving from this house I had zero issues in two years. I liked it so much I built it again

@sleddheadxp800r anytime man. Certainly wouldn’t be anything wrong with making the frame 1” wider to allow for 1/2” concrete board in each side. Honestly probably would have done it myself if someone would have suggested it beforehand. I didn’t intentionally not use it, I just hadn’t thought that through.

I just did this conversion but am having issues. I have confirmed power to the transformer from the new plug. I have power at the output of the transformer until I use the positaps and hook it up red and black wires on the grill. Then it is showing no power on the output and I cannot get the grill to turn on. Any advice?

Before I left Texas I actually rebuilt this whole thing to a much larger degree under a 10x14 detached patio. They make mini fridges specifically designed for outdoors that are rated up to 120 degrees. I can’t recall the brand I bought but it worked flawlessly.

Just did this modification. Pretty straight forward and thank you! Couple of points: 1. for anyone that has a little tab mounted on the outside for the cord retainer clip, I just used an angle grinder to remove the rivet from the inside. 2. If you have two wires coming off the factory 12v receptacle, just tap the bigger red and black lines. 3. Mount holes for the converter are pretty tight to the converter body so you want to be accurate on your holes if not toward the outside of each end of the converter. 4. Use short #10 bolts. Like 1/2"

@KeepUpWithKinnon Жыл бұрын
I had none, but I could understand the concerns. Different cooking habits and/or different weather could change this. Fort Worth had a near constant breeze so it was never a factor for me. I would say if you have the concern certainly nothing wrong with the extra $50 for the added protection.
