Great to see the rock going in. You are doing an amazing job. We were at this point a year ago on our 18 acres. We built a 750 foot driveway and a 70 foot square building pad. We are still building at the drywall finishing stage. It takes longer doing it yourself but you will have a greater connection to the property.

Thank you! It has been so fun watching it all come together and knowing that we learned the skills to do it ourselves. It feels like “home” because we have sweat over every step! I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am enjoying finally living my life! It’s showing me what we are truly made of and capable of!!

Enjoyed this episode. Still not understanding how a level string means the rock foundation is level: I will ask my husband and get educated like y’all are! We are students and never stop learning: good for our brains 😊😎
@americanrootsfarm4 күн бұрын
Thank you. I’m glad you’re here to share in it. I didn’t understand either. He explained that he measures a point on the steaks and makes that line level. Then he knows how many inches to add to each side to make the ground level. It seemed to work! Lol.

It can be very frustrating when plans and timelines don't quite work out the way you planned. You begin to literally doubt everything. Just remember that HE knows the big picture. I personally have to remind myself of that daily. You two have come so far already. As Grumpy says, it's all about perspective. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by what we have to do, we forget all we have already accomplished. Watching y'all makes me smile...and gives me hope that I will actually be able to do this myself.
@americanrootsfarm7 күн бұрын
I agree. Everything works out for a reason. If we had not walked through this we would not be where we are today!

These rolls look great- I was attempting your recipe but it looks like you added a cup of sugar to the dough but that’s not in the recipe in the comments - is there sugar in the dough itself?

Where do they charge 1k for two days? Thats a bit steep. In my area in Idaho they're 1200.00 for a week. Or 295-315 daily.
@americanrootsfarm13 күн бұрын
Yep it was about that here in the Midwest too. By the time you add delivery, insurance and tax, you are looking at $1000. It was $1600 for the week.

100%. We couldn't have been more grateful to have trusted advice from friends that have done this before. This is exactly the reason why we joined a community. 2 is better than one...

It is always so helpful to have someone experienced to be your sound board! I am so glad that you are sharing your journey as it helps those of us who are still in the planning stages of buying dirt, not diamonds. I know I have a thousand ideas running through my mind, lol. Can't wait to see what decisions you two make and share your joy as you progress in making a life done free.

I am so glad you are here! I have been trying to enjoy every lesson because I want to look back and say I had the time of my life. You are in a fun place right now. The planning stage is so great! You get to dream and fill your heart with ideas of what you want in a piece of property. And better yet, God will fulfill your every desire, more than your heart could ever imagine! I am excited to see your planning book!

We have since learned that you could have a small water vein that will register as “water” on the downing rods. So we are thinking rock foundation and keep the house moveable…

Sooooo many things to consider! Winds can knock down trees as we just experienced, property lines, cedar trees can spread cedar rust to apple trees, run off if you plan to use swales and on and on! The more time we spend on the property the more we observe and change up a bit here and there. This isn’t for weak people! 😂
@americanrootsfarmАй бұрын

My wife and I noticed that when you close the front door at 12:00, there’s a large air gap where you can see sunlight coming through the top of the door closed door. This is probably how the wasps got in, I would seal up that door crack to keep the heat in and the pests out ✌️
@americanrootsfarmАй бұрын
Thanks, it was a pretty big gap wasn't it? That is definitely where they were coming from! We ended up sealing up the door when we left. Since the house is not level yet, the door sits crooked.
