Long before Ozzie (and Harriet) were a part of Red Skelton's radio show.......and eventually, his own radio and TV series........he was a *bandleader.* And this was one of the "Soundies" he appeared in during 1942.

Thank you so much for posting these wonderful Soundies in high quality, but I'm sorry to inform you that this is not the Soundie "Playmates" by Billy McDonald from 1944 (which can be seen e.g. on Historic Films Stock Footage Archive, look for VM-32G), but the Techniprocess film of same name from ca. June 1941, reissued by Bonica and Official Films. But again: Thank you so much for posting! Kind regards.

Far out. Strange in some ways, pedestrian in others, yet a window on the time and place.

First in a series of six shorts released in 1946-47, produced by the Film Studios of Chicago, celebrating the accomplishments, activities and achievements of women the world over.

Used to be at least 80% of soldiers were support troops instead of combat. Nowadays I don't know. VP Cheney started using contractors which I saw in Iraq. I often wonder about the Ukrainians who could use more folks for combat but after several years seem to be bleeding out.

Originally seen on "KING LEONARDO AND HIS SHORT SUBJECTS" (1960-'63), which was primarily sponsored by General Mills- who just happened to have a cereal called "Twinkles", which came in a "storybook package" that featured further adventures of Twinkles and his friends (at least through 1963, when they switched to offering games and puzzles). By the early 1970's, all "Twinkles" segments were eliminated from syndicated repeats of "THE KING AND ODIE". The narrator is George S. Irving.

I remember these cartoons. They were partly to promote Twinkles cereal, which had storybooks you could cut out from the back of he box. The narrator of these cartoons is actor George S. Irving, who narrated sections of Underdog cartoons and voiced the Chief on The Go Go Gophers, which was done by the same animation studio (Total Studios). Irving is best remembered for a series of White Owl cigar commercials he did in the 1970s, with the catchphrase "Once you try White Owls...WE GOTCHA!"

I remember seeing the gum at store checkout lanes as a kid in the early 70's. I was always curious about the gum and how it would taste. I never did try it. Ice cream gum just didn't sound good but I loved the packaging. If any gum was bought, it would have been Fruit Stripe gum.

It was impressive that most of the estimates for the 15 MPH crashes were only around $1,000. But I have to wonder if any of them could really have been fixed to like-new condition; it was obvious that most of them had frame damage.
