Some 25 years ago, I blew out 3 recapped tires running a load from Cleveland Ohio to Brownsville Texas during the summer heat. I told the safety man from our company that this probably happened due to Goodyear retreads being melded with a Michelin casing. I insisted on not using those ever again. And since then, we never had any more problems. Needless to say, that was a very expensive trip for the company. Three road calls from three different companies, three new or recapped tires, labor and mileage charged, and paying me hourly while waiting for each road call and repair.

It's a good truck for a new owner operator. I remember my first truck was a 1989 Volvo GMC W164T. It had a 350 Cummings and a 9 speed Eaton Fuller. I paid $22,000 for this truck in 1996, at the LJL Truck Center, in Jacksonville FL. The rest is history. Since then I have owned many other trucks and trailers.

I worked with Mr. Romero's dad for 26 years. I've also known Mr. Romero since he became a deputy sheriff. Randy's humbleness, integrity and servitude will ensure you have a great truck buying experience. His statement of wanting to see you in a truck making money is heart felt. His upbringing and demonstration of positive, strong characteristics is refreshing. Sgt Robert Hitchcock (Retired)

Avoid anything with new tires and fresh paint... read between the lines, your alignment is out and frame is bent, and rust is going to take over. Also, check blowby and feel how tight it is, agree on a price and put $200 non-refundable down and send oil sample to CAT lab ($15) and wait... you don't buy a house without an inspection so don't be an idiot again. That is the best $200 you will ever hand someone. Also check if there are maintenance records... that can sometimes be instructive, avoid all DEF Internationals and DEF engines in general if you can. Codes can be erased temporarily or pieces disconnected... do not trust. Get YOUR KNOWLEDGABLE and trustworthy mechanic to look it over. Also, 100% of the time, if one area was not maintained (eg it has a new engine), then nothing else was either. run away, those are bankruptcy traps. Good luck.

I been at Volvo dealer every 2 weeks for 24 hours. Only 200,000 miles. Different issues. Fuel pressure control switch, box number 1 bad( ck engine light came on) ,APU problem once a month. You earn the 8mp gallon. Like Volvo trucks but they go to the dealership often. Down time even though warranty covers.

Thanks AM! Some of this info is useful to us two and four-wheelers also! Question: On buses(45' or longer) and trucks on ten or more wheels - is it a hard & fast rule to keep the cold tire pressures at the maximum listed on the sidewall of its tires? Or is it ok to run 5-10psi below, provided you check them before and after each haul?

Depends on how many miles are on the truck.Buy and take to the mechanic and tell him you want a engine rebuild. That way you can get a new engine to last a quite a bit longer, and hopefully everything is good

Noting we can do will substitute PRE- PURCHASE INSPECTION. It helps to do this important checks and obviously to filter the good from the bad. However, at the end we must do pre purchase inspection with a professional shop.

You can do all those inspections and still wind up with a lemon, It's a real crap shoot when buying a truck. You just have to be lucky to get a good one. You can prevented from buying a potential bad truck. but sooner or later.. you MONEY GODS will get your money.
