Thinking I have a weak fuel pump. It seems like it’s running on one cylinder after changing plugs, have good spark. It alternates cylinders when I pull the cap wire, sometimes the motor dies when I pull the pto plug and sometime the fan side. Sometimes the motor stays running when I pull either.
@phazerworld6300
@phazerworld6300 4 күн бұрын
The fuel pump can’t be weak really, it either works or it doesn’t. Pain to pull it but a good check for fuel pump is to pull the fuel lines off carb and pull it over to see if it’s pumping gas put. Easier to see if carbs are out. And while the carbs are out check the floats like I show but you might as well just clean it real good and tune it per specs

Hey there. Are you still active here on KZbin? Man, your videos have helped me out so much on my 100 dollar phazer journey. Picked up a ‘91 with 3900 miles on it for 100 bucks. Guy took it apart because it had a really high idle. And if he lost interest or didn’t have the knowledge or drive to put it back together I don’t know. Brought it home and went through everything. I saw it had a torn carb boot right away which I’m guessing was the idle issue. Got it all back together and she just fired for the first time in 3 years. Idle is a little low and I have some gas spitting out exhaust which I’m guessing may be stuck float? Going to let it run for a while and see if some things work themselves out. I set up the carb/throttle/oil just like you said in your videos. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks and will probably have questions if your still around.

Could gas out the exhaust pipe be reeds? Also, the rubber carb plugs over the center hole and pilot didn’t fit super tight but I figured the bowl would hold them in but maybe my idle issue has something to do with that.

I’m having a hard time finding Phazers for new content locally and have quit chasing them that are too far away. You can adjust the white knob on the carb to fine tune the idle and some adjustments to the float might be needed, did you check the float was working?

I just picked one of these up in January 2024. It is a 1988 in the Blue-grey color. I had been looking for a little one-lunger just to bang around on. This sled popped up near my house and for the right price. Of course we didn't really have a true winter here in Wisconsin last year, but for the few days we did have snow, I had a blast on it. (Along with my Indy, of course.) I did the TORS Delete as well, while installing a tether switch. Currently rebuilding a leaky water pump. I actually have posted a few videos of this sled...mostly working on it, bur a couple riding vid's as well. The only real issue I have with it is that many parts are now pretty much unobtainium. Otherwise I love this little machine.

@@phazerworld6300 Unfortunately no such luck. I did find most of the parts to rebuild the water pump, BUT somehow the impeller ended up hitting inside the pump housing, causing a lot of friction and heat. Melted the rubber around the ceramic seal. Made a real mess of it. The replacement parts are totally unobtanium now. So I tried a little "redneck modification" to the impeller. It is back together now, and seems to be OK, but who knows how long it will last...IF it lasts. If only I would have checked the clearance before running it I could have avoided the drama. Live and learn, LOL.

I'm in process putting a 1989 motor in 1998 Phazer SS. The 1998 has the 2 wire pickup coil (w/r & w/g wires) where the 1989 has a different stator and flywheel and the engine only has the w/r wire. So I have a floating w/g wire on the chassis harness. Is the 89 compatible? I'm hesitant to swap the stator and pickup because I don't think the stator mounting points are similar. Ever run into this? Great videos - so far they have helped me but I've been combing the internet trying to figure this out.

There is no easy way, but I have also pulled the carbs with air box still in. Good idea to remove choke cables and activate choke lever so choke plungers don't fall off. Seems to be easier to remove cabs with boots attached, but clamps removed from air box. Oil pump cable and throttle cable easier to removed when carbs twisted so linkage is vertical, as well as replaced. Boost bottle removed first. O ring pick with 90 degree is useful in making sure boots are fully seated.

Its going to take some experiments, the secondary you can just adjust it tighter by moving the spring position, the primary spring though is more difficult because you'll need to swap out springs and they aren't that easy to come by so makes experimenting costly and time consuming.
