That kind of G major you are playing sounds great, it leaves your other fingers free, to play an AM7, and is used in so many songs. Paul Simon used it all the time, most obvious in 'Slip Slidin away'. Great lesson ;) Side note: on the bridge part, I have always used a cadd9, with the capo on 3rd fret, and lifted my fingers off the tip strings. It works well, but this sounds more accurate. ;)
