Sorry, but it isn’t happening fast enough. It is still 50k to install solar panals on an adverage home. That does not include reinstall when a roof needs to be replaced. DTE powering 40k homes is a drop in a bucket when Michigan has over 9 million people. Also EV sounds good but what about the distance and cold weather? Its very hard just to get funding for currant infrastructure. I just don’t see it. Carrie form Shelby Twp MI.

When I was a kid, growing up on the monocacy and Potomac rivers, we used to catch rough scale and smooth scale suckers, with dipping nets. We didn’t keep them, because they are very bony to eat. We just did catch and release.

I did enjoy this video. I grew up in northern Ohio and fished Grand river where we caught suckers late, late, winter early spring. We called the suckers we caught White Horse suckers. This was in the 50s. Very few people bothered to eat them so they were not a favorite of anyone. However some Hungarians who moved to the area ground them up and canned them which eliminated the bones as a problem which made them unpalatable to most people. Fun to catch for kid but as I earlier said no one really wanted them. The lakes were fished by fishing boats when I was a child but we moved away from Lake Erie when I was a teen due to the smell and the dirty grey unsafe water. Now it's back after years of work, and better than before. Thank and bless all those involved.

Yes suckers are great for sucking up pike ,walleyes, perch, bluegill eggs ! These fish are bigger predators of fish eggs than fisherman because they come into the creeks after the pike and walleyes have spawned and suck up the eggs of those game fish . I live in Alaska now they even suck up the salmon eggs . No record how much or how little but those suckers were the fish staple in the old days . Olds before my time im 54

The very young ones are tasty, but once they reach maturity, generally, you throw them back. The adults taste greasy and swampy. So I dont see overfishing ever being a problem.

Close to my home there is a spring running into a creek , every year , right about Christmas the suckers would come to where the water ran into the creek. They would crowd in tight and us kids would tickle them . Northern pike came also What i noticed was when my dad sold his cows and his corrals no longer drained into the creek , the fish disappeared. When i moved home and got cows then the fish came back

@jsaddletramp I can remember my mother looked for the pussy willows in spring . They were the first sign of things starting to grow, and she would take us kids for a walk to cut some . They went in a vase on the table and lasted untill the crocuses were blooming

I liked the taste , but they had so many , little whisker thick bones . Some were split like tridents . My sister used to pickle them and that softened the bones so they didn't bother you One time i bought some fish ( white fish and lake trout ) off a truck . Guy had caught them in reindeer and great slave lakes . That was the end of my sucker eating days

To me, hearing, "fishes," is like hearing fingernails being dragged across a chalkboard. It's always, "fish," unless you are a gen-x or younger. The young folks always call them fishes. "Cannon ," plural is now, "cannons." Language continues to evolve no matter how much it hurts my old ears. Nobody uses semicolons or colons anymore either. In addition a lot of academics now want to get rid of commas. Footnotes are also a thing of the past.

The Fremont River runs through Capitol Reef Park in Utah. I was fascinated to watch suckers in the river time their short leaps out of the water at a small cascade for when the water sloshed a bit more. They were aiming to grab a bite of exposed algae and then slide backwards into the flow. (The grass is always greener, and all that I suppose.) I excitedly reported my observations to a nearby ranger, but I might as well have been talking to a fence post.

Sorry but you’re incorrect. Dr. Murchie is referring to the group known as suckers (and redhorses) in the family Catostomidae. She is referring to more than one species. There can be a group of suckers consisting of white and longnose suckers in which case we would say they are a group of FISHES. A group of 1,000 white suckers (only one species) would be referred to as a group of fish.
