Just rewatched the film again today, one of my new favorites. Like many of Welles' films, it's sometimes difficult to follow all the intricate details of the fast-paced plot. And with so much overlapping dialogue at times, and some very crucial lines seemingly almost treated as throwaways, repeat viewings are often a necessary pleasure.

Beautifully shot (film stock and exposure, input from Gary Graver?) and Welles eye for incredible reflections and angles is marvelous. Ironic given that Welles was ostensibly making fun of the new wave filmmakers in this montage (film within a film).Regardless, it speaks to the power of imagery and beauty: a setting sun on an expansive sets with reflective angles - no need for dialogue! Oja Kodar was simply stunning on camera, Bob Random w his youthfull glow... Welles was a magician with his editing for sure - master of light and shadow. Pure genius and such an inspiration...

Such a great lady. In spite of all her success through her life, you can see a down to earth human being with her vulnerability which makes her even more charismatic. RIP Margarita Carmen

The Hamlet Joke In Hamlet the Grave Diggers say, 'Ah, poor Yorick I knew him well'. How do the grave diggers know to go the cemetery plot? They're quite drunk though happy to be there vis a vis Mary Differ in merry but with differences of opinion. They're goal is to steal the corpse. Initially, they prime the nature of a synaesthetic sensation akin to voodoo by practicing a priming method involving pain through accident. They then test for presence periodically by pricking themselves with pins to see if a transmission of communication is possible just prior to death. They plan on stealing the corpse to test for communicative action via the corpse to other people within the Hamlet or Township. So the voodoo is achieved by priming with pain and threats. Then they try to achieve accidents in the weakened human subject to create injury leading to death. That's the bases of the Grave Digger scene where they grab the skull and say, "Ah, poor Yorick I knew him well". n.b., They're Indigenous. They live proximal to me. I know this because I heard them speak nearby just after priming with a pin prick. I've actually observed it in person not infrequently. You know when they start to prick themselves. That's a version of "Ah, poor Yorick I knew him well". Sometimes you can make a visual of them doing it. It does look a bit like a scene from Abott and Costello in the haunted house voodoo comedy; Hence, the Surname Joke. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6jQiHWhnpVpr8Usi=PcBv3Usm9EF5uMJ1 and if you let everyone know then it should end up like thus- kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmSZdYtun7SJfqssi=JwCzxB2my4hwSGc9

This material can be searched on dailymotion. There is much unused material of the other side of the wind. I hope someday to have everything realized by Criterion. Unfortunately no Blu-ray release has been planned.

@@inlandrosebud absolutely fascinating. Let me ask you something, in the documentary on Netflix, an unused scene apparently shows the character that is Hannaford's manager saying something like "what me commit suicide" and at the end of the film he seems down and out. Does this allude to him being originally a person who committed suicide at the end?
@inlandrosebud
@inlandrosebud Жыл бұрын
@@adamivester9876 the character in question doesn't kill himself and the scenes of his suicide weren't even in the script. Certainly he is a character with possible self-destructive tendencies but the link is not clearly justified.
