I ended up really enjoying Alien Romulus. Some magnificent zero G scenes, truly awesome visuals, and even a cinematic 'moment' or two. The characters were relatable.

Hey thanks for making the video. Who knew so many horror films were made in a year? (Well, I guess YOU knew). One thing: I did find there were more spoilers in your video than I would have expected. I like to go into films knowing very little, so for instance giving away the progression of a film (like science based, then science goes out the window, or small spiders to medium to crazy big) spoils things for me. Not everyone is like me, but something to think about.

I'm surprised you were taken in by the "Longlegs" hype - since you operate in social media, a world of seeking clicks and relevance and hyperbolic, over-emotionalized fakery to get them, I would think you would know that hype is almost always way overblown by design. I was totally looking forward to Longlegs apart from the hype due to his masterpiece film "The Blackcoat's Daughter" being my favorite film of 2017, and I STILL never expected Longlegs to be as scary or amazing as the media frenzy would have you believe. In any case, I agree that "Longlegs" is nonetheless the best horror genre offering of the year right up there with "Abigail" - two films that are different in every way but both just amazing viewing experiences. As for "Oddity," it was admittedly very good (and very well shot) film, but it just didn't "go there" enough with the payoff and I felt a bit let down by the ending. I actually prefer the filmmaker's earlier film "Caveat," mostly because it has one of the best and creepiest jump scares in recent memory - kind of like an Exorcist III moment. Anyway, overall a nice job with the list. If you haven't seen "The Blackcoat's Daughter," then DEFINITELY make that your next watch. I think it is a better film than "Longlegs" and more rewatchable when it comes right down to it.

I really enjoyed your list, I appreciate that you consider how enjoyable something was and not just how objectively well made something is. Sometimes people just want to be entertained, not everything needs to have a deeper meaning or commentary on society. I thing Longlegs was my favourite as well, Oddity hasn't been released in my country which is a shame because it sounds like my kind of horror 😅 I wouldn't call Longlegs super scary, but it really got under my skin and made me lose sleep that night, which usually never happens. The First Omen was another highlight for me, I'm not a huge fan of the original so it was such a positive surprise!

Each to their own we clearly have very different tastes but Heretic?? Terrible movie. QP series? Also terrible. Oddity okish, certainly not remotely scary. Long legs. Good but there are much better movies

The Substance was great until the last 30 minutes. Not to take away from the fantastic performances but most reviews seem to gloss over how awful the ending is.

Great recap and video! I've yet to see Afraid and despite mass criticism, I'm still curious to watch. I believe I Saw The TV Glow was the worst movie of 2024 in general and like Cuckoo, I just didn't get it. It took itself way too seriously. My favorite 2024 horror release is Smile 2, I had the most fun movie theater experience, nearly screaming and jumping out of my seat multiple times 😂

I'm really curious to what if there's a life experience or gender line with the fearfullness of Nic Cage in Longlegs. I've heard a few people say how scary and unnerving he was in the movie and litterally when he showed up on camera both me and my wife burst out laughing. Neither of us can figure out what's scary about it other than he's acting like a crazy person. Both of us grew up around people with schizophrenia so people tlaking to no one or acting crazy ins't abnormal to us. So who knows. Did not find it scary in the slightest but I'm glad some people got that out of it.

My biggest complaint with In A Violent Nature was how terribly it was filmed/framed. I wasn't expecting immense gore, but if it's supposed to be "the killer's point of view" why was everything slightly off frame or far away or completely off camera in general!? I HATED it. Oh, I "got it," pretentious film bros. The premise is a great one. And it was executed *terribly* Absolute garbage.
