Yeah, Clarkson and many auto journalists are so full of arrogance, they don't understand the benefits of a tough, economical vehicle for the masses which lasts for decades. Lord knows the average person could never afford to keep something like, say, a RANGE ROVER on the road.

to the original poster and their comments. "western wasting." yeah. right. the russians wasted WAY more materials AND PEOPLES LIVES when working on ANYTHING mechanical. using aluminum for brakes is 10x as expensive and wasteful as regular steel brakes, and simply worked MUCH worse. plus, the cars they drove were NOT the egyptian ones, they were the RUSSIAN ones. so your retort against "the west" really doesnt make sense and makes you come off as a spiteful hateful person. yes, the west has a LOT of issues, but your attack on them isnt one of them.

The only thing more comical than Clarkson's comments about these Communist train wrecks is the comments from the socialist useful idiots here _defending_ the train wrecks!

in the game DayZ, which takes place in a fictional part of post-zombie Russia, the Lada Niva is there, both as a placed crashed car that sometimes has loot in it, or as a vehicle that the players can fix up with spare parts and use. it is known as the Ada 4x4. and the players LOVE it. you just point a direction, and it GOES that direction. through the woods, through creek beds, canyons, sand, it's a great little rig!

The simple fact that Lada Niva 4x4 is the first unibody/monocoque SUV ever made. The next SUV that had this modern design was Lexus or something but that was 20 years later. Now all modern SUV's has this design. Niva don't need to change, can't change perfection from start.

And where is it said that poor people needs are less than someone elses needs. Makes one wonder why the commie system made such a shitty cars and other consuming products for it's citizens, and provided to them awfull living and working conditions. Eaven the cheapest cars in countries like Japan and Germany are pretty good quality if you compare them to anything that came out of Soviet block.

@josephbingham12553 жыл бұрын
The rear disc brakes were replaced as they picked up pebbles between the disc and stopping pad. So the replacement was an improvement. Lada's are still being used as Taxis in rural Russia so they must be dependable.
@one_step_sideways7 ай бұрын
Ladas are not in fact used as taxis in rural Russia. Especially not of this kind. Maybe the Lada Sputnik (2109) as the oldest car that would be used for this, but certainly not the 2107.
