Does anyone know where I might be able to find footage of the match between Darrell Keller and Larry Owings from the 1971 tournament?
@James-mz7tv11 ай бұрын
Dont forget, this is shot at a ridiculously slower frame rate than what we see in sport videography today. As in probably 16fps, if you can believe that. Since there's no sound, I'm rather inclined to believe it was shot on an old 16mm home movie camera, which most likely means 16fps. They're using 60 and 120fps for most NCAAs now. The difference makes these guys appear as if they're wrestling underwater. They were just as fast as the kids today, I know because in the 2000s, I wrestled against the old man versions of these kids, and even as older gents they were faster than this film reflects. Id like to see some of these old tapes ran through a 60fps conversion.

Schalles was shooting but not getting good penetration, but he would still back out of the position and score points. Both these guys were the best of the best. Kemp went on to eventually win six or seven world championships. He didn't get an Olympic gold medal because in 1980 President Jimmy Carter made the U.S. boycott the Olympics which were being held in Russia, because Russia invaded Afghanistan. Then, in 1984, Dave Schultz beat Lee Kemp out of a spot on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team.

I used to attend the Cliff Keen Las Vegas tournament in the late 90's and early 2000's and the tournament invited top Div. II, Div. III and JCs. I'd love to see the winners of II and III get invited to the big show.
