They didn't kick the British out. Also, a United Ireland via rejoining the commonwealth would work because it would integrate the loyalists and unionists into a so-called reunification.

@@philipschmidt4834 OK, they didn't kick the British out. The British felt it was convenient to leave. (....???). As for "integrating" loyalists and unionists in NI, I doubt Ireland has any interest in absorbing NI, and therefore no interest in what they do to each other. Furthermore, given that the UK is an international laughing stock, I don't think their little 'club' is quite as desirable - if it ever was at all.

PanglossDr The U.K. is a super power!!! The Republic of Ireland is irrelevant! The Republic of Ireland was only independent for 50 Years!!! In 1975 the Republic of Ireland officially gave up its sovereignty and ceased to be a independent nation after it joined the common market. The U.K. made the same mistake As the Republic in 1975 and joined the European Union. The U.K. is getting its independence and sovereignty back, while the Republic will continue to be a Slave to the Eu.

@@protestantwelshunionist1772 What a silly, ignorant, delusional and fact free post that was... The UK is NOT "...a super power!!!" It ceased to qualify as such after 1945. The political unit which is currently called Ireland has been independent since 1922. It has NEVER ceased to be independent. Joining the EEC in 1973 did NOT change that. Being a member of the EU does NOT change that. "The U.K. is getting its independence and sovereignty back..."? The UK is going to find itself in a situation where the only expression of "... its independence and sovereignty..." will be to ask "How high?"when told to jump by China, India, the USA or the EU... "...the Republic will continue to be a Slave to the Eu"? Slaves do not have the right to voice, vote or veto. The Republic of Ireland, as a member of the EU, will continue to enjoy its voice, vote and veto at European Council level, as well as its own Commissioner and its increased representation in the European Parliament.

If the IRA had stuck to attacks on the Brit Army we could have understood it, but when they started blowing up civilian men women and children, all respect for them flew out the window. well, the British army didn't stick to killing IRA men and had been slaughtering women children in Ireland for centuries. Brits set bombs off in my city too (Dublin) but unfortunately for us, we didn't get away without casualties, in fact, it contributed to the bloodiest day of the troubles. For every 1 atrocity committed by the IRA in England, there's 10 for the British army in Ireland.
