Well no, its not that bad. The only thing that is different from a normal cast off is the yarn over (air stitch) before every knit and cast off. Because the example is in ribbing and that needs the yarn be either in front or back of the work, it makes it look like its very complicated. But lets say in all knit its just yarn over (air), knit and then both over the last stitch. Easy!
