Dealing with ptsd and severe anxiety, my insecurities have only built up. All the times I have worn my heart on my sleeve and poured my experience out to help the people around me understand, nobody cares. It actually has not worked for me to be open about my insecurities. I’ve been left alone to deal with these issues for years now, I am 25 and growing obvious gray hair. I don’t ask for much, but apparently it’s still too much. It’s been so hard, I have literally been open to taking all the opportunities to grow that I can get and they have just not been coming or were not genuine offers to begin with. I just walk around with my insecurities, like walking through a thick fog, and consciously put in effort every day to keep my problems out of other people’s lives. I’m tired.

As an amateur gynecologist I don't let my lack of a degree stop me from pursuing my passion. The "law" says this and the "courts" say that; irrelevant. I'm secure in my abilities and pure love of the game. School is for suckers!

A “Servant-Leadership” mentality often empowers your team and pushes aside insecurity and conflict. When a teammate came to me with a problem I didnt see before my reply was usually “damn thats new to ME too…set up a team lunch and lets do a troubleshooting session to see if we dan figure it out”. Empower the person and fet them collaborative help

I left toxic coworkers who wouldn't admit things you literally watched happen with your own eyes and ears. Instead, they lie and claim a bad memory and claim you're just being paranoid. Obviously I'm not staying where you can't address the issues you're seeing and they just continue the behavior. Meanwhile, everyone lies for each other. My personal peace was more important.

The flip side is CEO's have gotten so out of control in most of the mid to large companies. Look at the pay differential between CEO, COO and field producers. Disgusting . I grew up going to the piers and getting picked at Shape Ups in NY to unload boats for the ILA. As crooked as labor unions were in the 80's even the biggest pigs realized everybody has to eat. Loyalty breeds loyalty, best CEO I ever worked for was a General and a Green Beret. He would take me from company to company with him and there is nothing i would not do for him in or out of work. The only chance of survival for a big producer with contacts in most industries is strong relationships with customers and the competition. As a 62yr old producer, the last thing i would do is train a 30 something Rat Bastard on how to screw me out of my piece of the pie. Why in Gods name would i arm mommy's little soccer player to put the wood to me after building a book for 35yrs. Find a replacement and I will go to your competition and eat your lunch and do my best to be in your house wearing your bathrobe with your kids calling me Big Daddy. Most businesses have more than one team on the field, seems like the key is to find the right team where everyone gets their needs met and find a loyal leader, not an easy task these days. Toxic and Toxic masculinity are terms invented by the weak who cant survive in the "jungle", just give me a hug and show me your wifes underwear drawer.

Former Hvac tech of 14 years and now a supervisor of a complete maintenance department. Leadership didn’t come easy but no joke, I started my leadership journey with picking up Jockos book. Best decision I ever made, no only for my soon to be role but for like in general

perhaps the problem is some people are not willing to take constructive advice. its more a reflection on the person that immediately rejects the advice than on the person making an observation

You guys might want to be careful with the alpha/beta terminology. The concept of an alpha male in wolves isn't a valid scientific concept anymore. We need to find new terms for this sort of thing.

Another point, if you have trained your people to not make decisions and always look to you, what happens to the mission if you for one reason or another are taken out of the fight? I would submit that fostering decision making and leadership in others is critical to the success of the mission in unforeseen situations.

There's a significant difference between the different types of learning... HVAC is guaranteed to be hands on & in a shop environment where one can move around & leadership training is most likely going to be classroom, memorization based & someone who excels at hands on will struggle with standardized classroom learning in my personal experience.

Yep, people who let their emotions or ego interfere with logic make bad decisions. Case in point: people who are married and divorced multiple times.

Agreed! Doing a good job doesn’t always mean someone is ready to lead. Leadership requires a completely different skill set.
