I have the same query too. If Alarplasty or Alar base reduction was done, can it be widened again like it was before?? That is my query.

Do you have pain? I had my nasal bridge narrowed (wasn’t agreed but the surgeon did it anyway while doing other stuff) and the whole year since I’ve had extreme tightness, pain and discomfort. Just feels like everything is pushing into each other and I can’t breathe well either. Really dreading the revision I’m going to have to have and wondering how much of the mess it’s going to clear up. Wish my broad nose had never been messed with.

Now I’d do anything to have it back. I feel so guilty on my wife and kids, even though she says it’s better I can’t see how. I have seeing old photos of my old nose it’s like living in a nightmare

Hey guys I don't know if u will ready my comment but I'll write it. I'm 27 years old from Greece. I had rhinoplasthy before 6 years in a rly famous doctor here. I had problem with breathing deviated septum and others. Anyways I didn't have big bonny parts but they did it even smaller I had big tip with fat skin the bottom part of nose. They did closed technique with a lot of sutures. In the start my nose was so sensitive and hard. I got depressed. Till now I have pain and sensitivity when touch it and the result is no perfect. I don't know if I had nerve damage during surgery but I didint even know this complication existed. Idk if I should do second surgery but not very invasive because the more things you change the more complications u might have..

It depends on the placement of the grafts, and placing more grafts may not be the answer. Alar strut grafts are placed under the native lower lateral cartilages. While they are a very powerful graft, sometimes the graft can prolapse internally and narrow the internal nasal valve. In some situations you can go back and shave and thin out the graft from the inside. In other situations, the graft is not long enough and may need to be replaced with a stronger or longer graft. I would encourage you to follow up with your surgeon and have them examine your nose to determine exact etiology.

Sometimes but not always, run grafts can serve a cosmetic purpose but also can support external nasal valve, sometimes a stronger graft is required to help support the nasal valve.

Maybe u need to get another. Sometimes that’s the case to get the result u wanted but don’t get to many or u will end up like Michael Jackson .

I went to a top rhinoplasty surgeon in New Jersey and he destroyed my breathing. Didn't do what I wanted at all. My teeth are getting ruined. People should learn to live with what they have. At least 68%of people regret their surgeries. I wish that I could go back coz this was the biggest mistake ever!!! The best to you all!!!

The upper walls of your nose are usually made out of bone and can be realigned by making cuts in the bones(osteotomies). The middle portion of the nose may need spreader grafts to help support internal nasal valve. In addition we also use lateral (alar batan) grafts to give additional support to the nasal valve. Hope that helps.

@@josephshvidlermd-seattle Thanks for the info Doc. I recently visited one of the top ent's in Ireland that does alot of nose work. He wouldn't work on it, said it'd be a complicated job and could end up looking bony.. which sucks. Maybe at some point in the future ill get a second opinion, possible outside of Ireland. Cheers Doc.
