7.45am Australia Hi I'm a beginner and found your video helpful in understanding how to position the Bodhran as well as practiceing how to place your hand on the drum to express the different tones. I have a Malachy Kearns 45cm Bodhran and am looking to learn to play it more confidently. Very much a beginner. I bought my drum from Galway however never really learnt to play it. Thankyou. Deboragh from Australia

I had a lovely Bodhrán which I bought in the arsehole of Donegal and my Hungarian ex stole it, only to annoy me. Congrats and thanks and keep up your music. You're very very good.

Love your channel, but a shame you have gone ‘vertical’. Your tone lesson from 4 years ago was even easier to understand with the multiple camera view on screen at the same time.

Hi Raymond, thanks for your feedback. I wouldn’t say I have ‘gone vertical’ forever so much as - I recorded a video while I was feeling inspired and thought why not post something helpful if this is useful for people. As you say the studio videos are much better, but also require me to book studio time, an engineer, editing time with a videographer etc so obviously takes a bit of planning which I’m not able to do every single time I’m feeling inspired for content 😉 however, I have been meaning to get back into the studio so I appreciate the feedback and will get planning. In the meantime, please rest assured that all of the content in my courses have way more videos than I have here on KZbin and are filmed in the exact same way as my older videos you referenced. modernbodhran.com/courses/

First piece of advice from a Bodhran player of 34 years, lose the bloody BBQ sticks and get a solid wooden tipper. Jig Beat is Down, Down up, Down up. I have no idea what you're doing!..literally every Bodhran video I've seen is utter rubbish, you do that in a session in Ireland and they'll throw you out!.And please stop using metronomes, it has no place in Irish traditional music..

Oh thank you so much I really appreciate it! :) my drum is the Martin O'Neill (MONss) signature series made by Christian Hedwitschak, it is amazing! All of his drums are beautiful. It's a 15" drum. You can see more on Martin's site here: www.martinoneill.com/shop/monbodhran/ or more of Christian's work here: www.bodhranmaker.de/index.php hope that helps!

I've been playing bodhren for a few decades now with wooden solid and split beaters as well as bamboo beaters. Recently, I've messing around with larger artists brushes that I've picked up cheaply from various sources. They give a lovely soft sound as well being able to give a decent thump on the skin as well as a clack when hitting the rim of the bodhren. Being light in weight they allow for very fast playing. I've kept a close eye for any skin damage and, so far, I haven't seen any. I've seen quite a few brush, bristle beaters that I'd like to add to the growing collection but they are beyond my price range by the time our OZ dollar is converted as well as postage. Cheers, Steve
