Are you using the Circut Maker 3 or a different version of the Circut?
@reelguysfishing11 ай бұрын
It's the Maker 2 I believe. Got it a couple years ago for my daughter to use for modeling architecture projects because it would do the balsa. She ended up rarely using it but I do a fair amount of vinyl and now EVA. Recently started following another rod builder who uses a Cricuit for some of her stuff but she assembles it differently by hand cutting the EVA round to inlay the Cricuit cut pieces into it. I'm going to give that a try on my next one. I just can't get the seam as invisible as I would like with my technique.
@LeinadNosredna6811 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I’ve had my eye on a Cricut but didn’t want to buy more than I need. I’m dying to do inlays and hand cutting has proved disappointing. I presume you’re talking about Mary’s vids. She isn’t afraid to go big or go home.
@reelguysfishing11 ай бұрын
@@LeinadNosredna68 Yep... That's her. She does some incredible stuff. I've always done function over style. Not that my stuff is boring, but I always built for a specific application and the fisherman's physical attributes and then throw a nice wrap on. Past coupe years I started looking at more "decorative" things. Working on one where I used gold and silver leaf over the whole rod and am going to start wrapping it soon.

Great video...ar the inlays still holding strong? I was surprised to hear the super glue was holding the gaps of the inlay together. Where do you get your foam sheets and thin core?
@reelguysfishing Жыл бұрын
Yeah, still holding up although I can't say I've used and abused them too much yet. Believe it or not, I pick up most of it at craft stores. Cosplay is getting more popular and they use the EVA foam in their costumes. JoAnn's Fabric has multiple sizes of the round cores and if you can't find the sheet colors you want there or Hobby Lobby, you can but them off Amazon although they are relatively small. I'm still looking for good color selection in 5mm thickness. Generally I can only find black and white. I think 5mm would be the best option. the 2mm is so easy to sand through.
@davidcampbell2661 Жыл бұрын
Will more than 6 loops work?
@reelguysfishing Жыл бұрын
Yes. 6 is more of a general guideline. Line size and hook size play a factor. Thinner line you can do more without an issue. Larger hook you can do more. I'm sure there's a point with thicker line where you can't easily cinch the knot down but with 8-15 lb line I've done as many as 8-9 loops without issue. Never had a need to do more. If for whatever reason you were using 6 lb line on an 8/0 hook, you would want to and should easily be able to do 10-12 or more.

@reelguysfishing Жыл бұрын
Appreciate it. I love ultralight fishing. Unfortunately in that spot it's nearly impossible to land a hybrid of any size on 4lb. They get in that current and it's game over. The rocks are too dangerous to chase them downstream so you have to pull them back up against it. I have landed a few on 6 while fishing right against the rocks for walleye/sauger but they were not in good shape by the time I landed them. Got the good release but reviving them was tough. I did hook one I suspect was close to double digits on 6 and I had to tighten down and pop him off when I saw spool. LOL Did get one the other day that was smaller on the fly rod. That was fun.

I picked up a Swisstech head lamp at Walmart for less than $30. Rechargeable & seems to last forever. Great for night fishing. Also, I use a power bank battery for the camera that I keep in my coat pocket or strapped to my chesty. Everything works longer than I really need. I recommend posting some #shorts on a regular basis. You can learn about them right here on youtube. Aside from that, I would appreciate more detailed information as to your locations. Traveling to SW PA for walleyes and fishing in general is on my bucket list. I'm on the Susquehanna River in NE PA. Do folks take boats on the Ohio River much? Can you recommend any landings near good walleyes? Keep up the good work!
@reelguysfishing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have several power banks I could use but I'm always leery about having the cord coming out the side and catching it on something resulting in busting the connector. Really prefer to have my "real" camera on a tripod and had it with me that night but with the rain coming in and having to work my way down the steep bank to get to the river, I decided to keep it in the car. Hate filming at night but I just ordered a new camera with a night mode that is supposed to be really good in those conditions. Should have it this week so maybe have a couple nights more I can get some fishing in before that spot gets too dangerous for the winter. There are boats on the Ohio all the time. I believe this location there is a restriction were you can't get within maybe 300-400 yds of the dam. There are buoys out there and I never see anyone go past them but I haven't looked up the regs so just a guess. As far as boat ramps, not terribly familiar with them in this area. There is the Ohioville Borough Boat Ramp in this section which is right on the OH/PA border. Looks decent with nice paved parking. Don't know if there is a launch fee. Since there are dams and locks all along, you just need to pick the section you want to fish ahead of time. And in this area since you also have Ohio and WV to deal with, you just need to make sure what water you are in and regs there. Not sure if the license is reciprocal in a boat in those waters. It isn't from shore. ;) If you want to hit up the downtown Pittsburgh area, there are walking trails and marinas all over the 3 rivers area. Best access if you want to not be right downtown is on the Monongahela. Duck Hallow Trail on the north side of the river is pretty decent.
