Thanks. Just purchased 1983 W350 with a 360 and it was in a mess. Distributor is Part #4111950 which was not listed in the 1983 parts manual, assuming it is ok for a 360, only looks like it is for a 318, no matter I think because they are both small block V-8's. At any rate, very dirty so had to dis-assemble, clean and put her back on. If it wasn't for this video would have had to use a Made in China Distributor with a black cap. Everyone knows-Dodge' don't use Black caps in 1983. Merca!

Great video- exactly what I was looking for! One Q- In my manual and on Uncle Tony's Tune up vid, there's mention of a felt oil retainer hiding inside the shaft, presumably lubricating the works? I don't see one here, nor did I find one in my Plymouth..

You're telling me the factories who made certain models of distributors screwed up the rotor phasing so bad that you have to modify the position of the breaker plate/pick-up to correct it? Or get an adjustable rotor, an adjustable cap, an adjustable breaker plate or pickup, or install a crank trigger. I'm thinking this doesn't apply to 99% of classic car people...but cool modification if it really was necessary...btw people, without one of those parts I mentioned THERE IS NO ADJUSTING ROTOR PHASING, just had to be clear.

Nice work - so you used a 1972 kit? What aluminum rad are you using?

Yes, a 72 kit. Radiator I don’t remember who I got that from, but it wasn’t one of the 700 dollar ones.

Thanks. I need to flush a GM 5.7. Changed a freeze plug and could feel about 2 inches of rust in the bottom of the block. What is the best way to flush that? I think it was from the failed Dexcool stuff that had to be taken off the market due to rusting engine blocks.

I challenge you to disable your vac adv & shine the light in the drilled hole in the cap & rev the eng & you will find that phasing does not change. Also move your initial & you also will find that phasing does not change. Only vac adv changes phasing. excellent idea to slot the mounting plate holes on the side of the dist which again will only change the phasing range that vac adv adds. not sure if the vac adv mounting would need to be changed slightly to accomodate this but I am going to do it as I run vac adv. Some mounting plates have a roll pin locator in the housing wall which would need to be removed. on a side not Echlin has a rotor with a longer (.060" iirc) blade which will reduce the gap & help with phasing issues. Hi, Greg, Thanks for the vid. I found out why I had an occasional tick at idle. I measured the gap w my brass feeler .008" and half were in spec, the rest at .010. I tried to set the closest to .008. My technique not so good. Starting the engine, i heard loud ticking!! Popped the cap and noticed the center shaft has play. I only have a few thousand miles on this Mopar model - new when I bought it. I went and reset the closest to .010" and ticking all gone. If you read this, can u tell me if the shaft should be moving?? It's about .004" play. Thank you

Most people thread the casting and use screw in jets. That way changes that are enviable to change size is much easier. Yes drill and tap should be done on a bench and blown off to avoid chips internally.

What can I do to lower my shift points?
@mopars4us Жыл бұрын
Hi. If you have a mechanical rod type throttle pressure assembly you can adjust the rod shorter by turning the adjuster clockwise. That is assuming we are talking about a Mopar with a TF type transmission. Your question was lacking a bit of info on what you have. :-)
@bretcj7 Жыл бұрын
Oops yeah i was too vague. I have a 2 barrel sniper with a Lokar kickdown cable to my 727. It seems like no matter how tight or loose my kickdown is it shifts way too late
@mopars4us Жыл бұрын
Do you have a return spring on your throttle pressure lever itself? It’s a must, because the lever will not back off all the way without it. It needs to be pulled all the way forward when there is zero throttle opening.
@bretcj7 Жыл бұрын
You are right!! It wasn’t going back another 1/2” so it was always ready to engage the tv right away!
@bretcj7 Жыл бұрын
@mopars4us how much travel should I have before the lever starts to make contact with the tv plunger? It is that relative based on how I want my shift points?

Not all vacuum advanced cans are the same, some are adjustable, some are preset and have stoppers on the arm of it and some are Electronicly controlled with one wire.
@kennacraftjr.6513 Жыл бұрын
Using the dollar bill is a good idea. The gap should be .008 but it needs to be set at full vacuum of the vacuum advance because when vacuum is applied by the motor it brings the pickup closer to the relucter.
