I used to be a student at Damers from 2010 to 2015 (back in the old building near the hospital) and it's so crazy to see how much it has changed. I sometimes wish I could visit the new building to see what it is like. From the outside, it is certainly a very visually appealing school. I know a majority of the teachers I used to have, have left but I'd still love to one day run into any of them so they can see how much I've changed. I'm now 17 and I still think about the impact Damers had on my life.

It was such a privilege to chair this lecture - as a school governor at Bannockburn Primary, I was able to take pride in the very positive comments he made about the ethos of he school and as someone who has worked in the primary sector for many years, I appreciated the powerful messages in the lecture about what makes for quality in primary education.

A comment received from a NAPE member. Having just watched the NAPE KZbin videos on “Oracy” reminded me of a pilot scheme I worked on whilst teaching In Queens Park Academy. It was a trial project on teaching debating skills in primary schools and was organised by “The English Speaking Union”. They have a wealth of good ideas for games etc to give children confidence in public speaking. I worked with a group of year 4 children for a year and then we attended a “Debating Competition” with other local primary schools including schools from the independent sector. Most of the children in my group were second language children and the scheme really boosted their confidence . It is so important for children to learn to voice their opinions in a rational and confident manner. I hope lots of schools will include “oracy “ in their curriculum. The children I taught thorough enjoyed the lessons and their written English also improved a lot. I suggest contacting “The English Speaking union” and asking them for their resources on “ Debating in Primary Schools””

I used system with my two boys. We used to go through the workbooks while having a cup of tea for a few minutes everyday. It was just part of our day and we enjoyed it and chatted away while we did our exercises. When I had finished the books, I downloaded the font and created new lists which was a way to expand their vocabulary in French as well as English. When they went to secondary school they were astounded that lots of the other children found writing so difficult. For some of them it was a burden right through to university. I think that basic motor skills are important and beautiful writing is very satisfying. I strongly recommend this system to anyone thinking of using it.

Many thanks for your positive comment. It is a pity more teachers and parents don't take a leaf out of your book! I like the way you also created your own lists using the free Christopher Jarman font.

Some very useful ideas embedded in this video for the class teacher wanting to explore the educational potential of local visits and the practical implications of their organisation.

Thank you Robert, I am planning for future videos to be in the same vein, packed with information for the hard-working teacher!
