The Knicks were the only team that pushed The Bulls to 7 games 3 times in the 90s. No other team was able to do this.

Post scoring died because its eneffecctive as the main weapon. Ppl will just clogg the lane or deny the post for some time forcing the offense to put up a bad contested shot....or they will pass it out for an open 3 like everyone does now. It does not make sense to pass the ball into the post to put up a contested shot when ypu can just as easily collapse the defense in a 5 out spread. Even 4 out one in is a weakness as it leaves the big defender by the rim...now we can pull that guy away and the paint will be wide open. Its just smarter to do that post playing...

If we simply get rid of the silly amount of steps 3point shooters can take the game will change in a big way. That will reduce the number of viable 3pt volume scorers by a lot and mean that perimeter defense and switchability wont be the pivotal skill to have as it is now. Players like Paolo will be the future teams tailor their teams around, and there will be much more demand for post scorers and players that can defend those archetypes. Of course there will still be teams focused on the threeball, but it wont be perceived as the go to way to play.

The NBA needs to cut off the corners & wing 3s, so that players can only shoot a 3 from the top of the key. Allow bigs to stay in the paint for 7 seconds and they can backdown defenders for 7 seconds. This will get players in line and expose lazy shooters who just wanna shoot 3s. Bring back hand checks.
@StainMasters16 күн бұрын
The threes thing I disagree, but I definitely agree they need to implement FIBA rules and eliminate the 3 second rule altogether and the back to the basket rule. That’ll have an affect on 3 point shooting without changing the 3 ball itself cause teams will run players off the line if the threat of an open drive is eliminated.

@ I remember the days where Iverson, Jordan, & Kobe displayed an acrobatic layup package, finishing over 7 footers at the rim. I remember how Magic’s elite passing & ball handling skills helped him pass through traffic. Hakeem was a post master. The game is boring. Dudes like Tatum are boring and never fully developed. What makes him different from Paul George (despite him being 8 years younger)? It’s laziness. The coaches and the players are lazy. The artistry of the game has been drained by those damn 3s.

You’re right about everything…but the defense and physicality is slowly coming back. I think in the near future we will have 90’s style basketball coming back but with the 3 being more relevant then it was back then

Dirk was more of a post scorer in his third and fourth season when the narrative was that he needed to learn to score inside. Dirk actually drifted out from the post more into the mid range as his career progressed. But that's how the meta of the post game was for power forwards. Dirk was in the era that changed the position. When Garnett and Kemp were young the narrative was that they needed to learn to play in the post and bulk up. They got stronger, but they bucked the trend. They didn't get bulked up like a Charles Oakley. They also developed a mid range face up game alongside their post up game. Dirk, KG, and Shawn Kemp changed the PF position forever.

@@Davivd2I can remember when the refs used to light Ewing up (traveling) for the same gather step that Lebron used to have. He definitely had a 17 footer on the baseline. Barkley also started operating more from the midrange starting in PHX. I’d throw C. Webber into the mix as well since he used to play SF and C in his WAS days. He definitely deserves to be in the convo of positionless basketball pioneers. I wish that the game still had room for the Elton Brand/Zach Randolph era power forwards.

Great story & analysis. Current NBA turned into 3 point shoot around, if the teams 3s ain't going in the game is over, so everyone and their mother is jacking up 3s. They need to change the rules and count 3s as 3 only for the team behind, for the leading team only 2s. That way the game could stay close, and hopefully will see some return of the post scoring. #nerfthe3pointshot
@SuicideJones3316 күн бұрын
KG wasn't quite the prolific post scorer you're making out. He posted up, sure, certainly more than todays average PF/C, but he was known as a jumpshooter in the midrange and often criticized for it.

What a great video and analysis, congrats. I hope this three point era is a tendency that some day will reach its limit and the game will eventually return to a more balanced point. It happened with the extreme defense in the early 90s, with the ISO playing in early 2000s... I HOPE 😂
