I was thinking same,permanent marker. Just thought of my Sashiko projects, i trace, with pen the pattern on washout interfacing, safety pin this onto fabric,and then stitch and rinse..would this work for u?U probably thought of this, seam allowance on panel(s)..I can't wait to see how it all progresses..will be fantastic,I'm sure! great idea using gift bags also. Q, by chance, did u test bags for colors bleeding, it may not matter? Continue on and I'm very impressed
@BenjaminKrudwig5 ай бұрын
I'll talk a bit about this in episode 2, but I did try marker, but it bled right through haha! barely marked the fabric itself. I found a rather simple yet elegant solution, that is working perfectly for this project. The seam allowance is also taken care of with the technique I'm using (phew) I did NOT test for color-fastness, but I don't think it should matter. Though, I have a new item on my to-do list hahaha! Thanks for the tips!

What yarn weight are you using? Just curious. I mostly weave with 8/4 cotton for blankets, but would be interested in weaving fabric for clothing.
@BenjaminKrudwig5 ай бұрын
Hey there! for this project I used 8/2 tencel and for the other fabric I used Jaggerspun Superlamb 2/24 (This one looks like it's no longer available though)
@monamagican5 ай бұрын
How complicated is it actually?
@BenjaminKrudwig5 ай бұрын
The set up is the most complicated part - the actual weaving quite simple, but there are some things to keep track of, like treadling pattern and yarn tension. Weaving on a pin loom or rigid heddle loom is quite beginner friendly and very easy to pick up.

I don't have any questions, but i must say, this is the most calming video I've seen even though I'm not into this type of stuff. I can't really explain why.

How it works
@BenjaminKrudwig5 ай бұрын
@@erumsaeed9724 hard to explain in a comment, but I’ll do my best. The threads on the loom are called the warp. Each thread passes through a heddle on one of the 8 frames. There are pedals on the ground that are attached to the frames in a certain pattern. As I press down the pedal, some threads lift, and then I pass my shuttle (the wooden thing I’m sending back and forth) through the gap between the up threads and the down threads. This yarn is called the weft (easy to remember because it goes left -weft - to right.) The order I press the pedals creates the pattern that gets woven up.

What keeps it from flattening back out? Hope and physics or is there stitching too. I don’t even understand how anyone can do that. It’s breaking my brain
@BenjaminKrudwig9 ай бұрын
There is stitching on the back that gives the initial shape, and then after that, I fold the scales into place, pin them, steam them, then remove the pins and do a final press. The heat of the iron essentially locks the folds and pleats in place. (But also hope... )
