Linda Balgord was not Patti LuPone's standby in GYPSY. Lenora Nemetz was her standby and only played the role on the Sunday matinee the day before Patti did the cast recording.
@gordyCA9 ай бұрын
You are mistaken. When the production opened, Nemetz, who was playing Mazeppa and Miss Cratchitt, was LuPone's UNDERSTUDY. A short while into the run, they brought on Balgord as standby. Balgord's casting as standby is reflected on ibdb.com: www.ibdb.com/broadway-production/gypsy-475256#Replacements.

@@gordyCA Thank You. And did she do a performance?
@MarkMilliken-n7t9 ай бұрын
I do understand that she is singing on this recording I just didn't know she went on in this production.
@gordyCA9 ай бұрын
@@MarkMilliken-n7t Yes, she went on at least once, on Nov. 22, 2008.

this is incredibly different to the only other footage on youtube of her singing this…it’s crazy how a production and performance can change over such a short amount of time! LOVED this whole production, Tyne and Linda had no competition, they were both simply fantastic!

It was her only performance of Rose, actually...

Did Patti only miss two shows? Linda only went on once, and so did Lenora Nemetz.

Do you have a tradelist? Could you say me where can i found the whole show video? I really want to see the scenes from Jason Alexander, specially the Marry Me one.

This was the first musical that I ever saw on Broadway-- with Linda Lavin because Tyne Daly had taken a hiatus. I later saw Daly when she returned to the show, and while she was great, I think Lavin gave the role more psychological complexity. At times Rose seemed like a mentally disturbed person, not just an overbearing stage mother. I'll never forget the way she said "You go to hell" to Herbie. It froze my blood.

"They burned his corpse in Palatine." Refers to Palatine Hill which is located on the fringe of the Roman Forum where Caesar was cremated.

Much better singer than Daly, though i Love Tyne Daly's Rose(thank god someone had the balls to bring a camera into the theatre then to capture it) vocally there is absolutely no contest Lavin is much nicer to listen too

she's been great since day one. that voice can do anything and she knows how to interpret songs. ( streisand and midler used to be able to do this too). i wish she was chosen to be norma desmond in the movie of "sunset blvd". love to see her work with ellen greene as well. another one who kept her vulnerability in her voice.

Thanks so much for posting these. I think she's pretty good. I like her giggles during the song. The first part of the song is supposed to be fun and you can tell that she's having a great time. If only someone had video of her in the role.

I agree! Regardless of the production's mixed reception, it's a shame not to have performances like Cyndi's, Ana Gasteyer's, Jim Dale's and Christopher Innvar's preserved. I keep hoping Cyndi will record one of the songs on her own CD.
