The rarest I’ve seen is someone on a forum post that had a 99-02 yellow sport dually, he said that it was factory and all the stickers and such matched. The rarest 98 I’ve seen was a 98 12v intense blue sport dually, leather interior but an automatic trans. I’ve personally had a 98 12v 5 speed quad cab short box sport in intense blue.

@thebubbacontinuum26452 ай бұрын
1. Look for a different tractor. Seriously, if you have one of these things, sell it now, because it has no future except in a museum. Deere has cut off essential parts for these old machines. Example: no rockshaft cylinders, and to get one repaired, you will have to find someone who can cut it open with a lathe, redo the seals, and weld it together again. A cylinder will fail several times during the life of the tractor. Deere knows this, but they made theirs disposable just to cost you money. There are also no mufflers. No decks. Go to a parts website and see how many important things you can't get now. New grilles don't exist, and you can expect to pay $800 for a good used one. Oops! They discontinued the radiator. That's not good. Thank goodness radiators never have to be replaced. The deck weighs over 300 pounds, and to change the blades or the motor oil, you have to detach it and pull it out. Deere made it too high to go out without hitting the tractor, so expect to jack it up. It can take up to an hour to get the stiff, poorly-fit parts to work so you can get the deck out. Adjusting the deck is a royal pain. Go see how easy it is with a new zero-turn. These machines are great for people who like to repair old tractors and scan the Internet for used parts. If you like having no mower while you try to find parts, this tractor is for you. Bragging about owning one is like bragging about owning a steam locomotive. For mowing, you want a real mower made after the Clinton inauguration. I'm about to make an offer on a Kubota diesel zero-turn, and I am going to unload my 430 on some old guy who thinks struggling with obsolete machinery is fun. The Kubota has a built-in jack that lifts the deck for servicing. All parts are still available, and Kubota's parts are more reasonable.

Very good review. Although I do question some of your points, overall, it's well done. Having refurbished a couple of these, I would say a lot more attention to the rear axle needs to be done as they not only crack but downright destroy themselves. The frame at the axle mounts often breaks completely off which usually allows the axle to pivot enough to crack or break the opposite axle. The last 420 I did I had a hole in the bottom of the transaxle case large enough to stick your hand through. These transaxles are virtually impossible to find in good condition. After several months, I ended up converting a 318 case to the 420. It's not an easy task but it can be done. The front PTO clutch had to be replaced and that alone led me to repower the tractors with something a bit more modern. That PTO is very rare and very expensive. It is a total oddball due to the large crankshaft and dual belt pully sheaves. It was a showstopper. The repower engine allowed a much better PTO to be installed as it is a later design and available off the shelf at a reasonable price. The power steering box had to be rebuilt and that is certainly beyond most owners' capabilities to do it correctly. Finally, that 60" mower deck is one of the most solid I've run across with a very big "but" that comes with it. If you own one of these, I would suggest you take very good care of the gearbox. They are NLA new and no parts are available from either Deere or the Manufacturer. Finding a good one is very unlikely and after months of looking another Deere fan reluctantly parted with his spare. If you rock out the very small woodruff key of the input shaft and allow the joint to wear, you're in for a tough time getting it going again. All that said, I personally would not recommend anybody take on one of these models unless you're like me and really love to take on a challenge. But if you choose to do so, I have many photos and videos and I'm always happy to help others.
