I may be a Gen Z 24 year old born in 2000. But I'll never forget growing up with learning about this locomotive and other steam trains like it with The Great Railway Adventures books and audio cassettes and actual battery powered Lionel Train sets which I still have today although have seen better days. The Invention of Tomorrow Contest at the New York World's Fair. What a sight it must've been to see such marvelous pieces of technology and mechanical masterpieces like this.

I think it looks so much more awesome covered in soot and working with REAL freight. Wish UP would let it pull long freight trains once again, especially on lines where they claim "too much freight traffic" is the reason they can't run it there.

I've seen it's sister (brother?) locomotive, #108 at a museum in Snoqualmie, WA. It's still there but really rusted as a log of their collection is sitting out in the weather, which is too bad. Years ago and purchased an HO brass scale model of it. My son now owns it, it was a wedding present to him.

What’s that I see? Another copy/pasted comment template with the good ol’ “insert random person’s name here” gag? You’re gonna have to try harder than that to convince me if it really is your uncle’s voice. Pfft! Like heck I would believe any of this nonsense.

I’m pretty sure they had to put cotton in their ears to prevent hearing loss since there probably were no earplugs back then. At least that’s what I assume.
