The irony of this song is that it is so filled with beauty that leaves me tear stained every single time I listen to it! It’s one of my very favourite Tim Minchin songs. Thank you for posting it. 😞💜

Eight years later Tim finally gets brave enough to publish the whole ALBUM of the so called "humourless" songs - this makes the album. Head here www.timminchin.com/ to find your shop and pre-order the album!

Hi Kimber- when I filmed this I was stood right over the speaker that was plugged into Tristan's guitar... I was using the speaker as a table for my drink! So it probably came across a lot louder that I would have sounded anywhere else in the room.xx

I just came back to delete my comment. I'm really against negativity directed at anyone's art, regardless of interpretation. Many non-artists have no concept of the kind of guts it takes to put your stuff out there at all, and it makes me sad to read all the youtube comments full of ignorance and just plain meanness. I'm not one of those people!!! Anyway, I've had enough experience putting my own stuff out there only to have it be stomped on by a lead guitar that this vid kinda flipped a switch for me. My apologies to you and everyone :)

What does are the lyrics that he sings about Autumn at about 1.36? I can't quite work out what he's saying. Also the bullied by the clouds as he what? I'm writing out the chords but I've had to write out the lyrics too as I can't find them anywhere either.

In his orchestra concert he say that this is "a bit of meta song. A song about a song". And that makes sense. Its not about a woman. Its about a song

Sorry, I dont think i explained it very well but hopefully you get the gist of it. On the other hand i believe it is about a slaggy girl he knew and he "fell" for her but was too nervous to make a move or she didnt like him the way he liked her. He wanted love she just wanted someone to get with. I could talk about this song for ages but unfortunately there is a word limit. Love this song though. It's very clever and actually quite beautiful.

I believe the song is about this type of song. Slow and powerful, it is easy to do but he feels he is above it which is why his songs are not typically like this. "You payed to see satire and rage" The song is played with a crescendo and all the stuff 'beautiful songs' have in them which makes it a little joke proving he can do it but going against what he is saying in the song.
