Andi Hug definitely got robbed. Satake was a great fighter but Andi was robbed. You can see the disappointment in Andis face at the end.

Notice all the fighters had a mutual respect for each other. No trash talking, no overly hyped-up press conferences, no dirty looks before or after the matches (Opponents even eating together and family joining in at the end). Nothing but respect and honor all around. This is the true spirit of Karate. OSU!

And with the brick. Masaaki Satake didn't break even half of them. Most of them was just pushed away, and not broken when he hit them. Absolutely pathetic. Just give the title to the Japanese guy and that would have been enough.

Both Sam Greco and Andy Hug was robbed big, big time. But Greco totally dominated the match. How the heck was draw 3 times, when Greco smashed him through the roof. Complete garbage bias and referring. +

I love it, Japan, and Karate but the winner even though I know he is strong...Japan was incredibly racist at the time, my father was there in 1980 training and he told me foreigners were not allowed to even compete in 1980. The winner I want to say, as a fighter I can see that his opponents were hand picked obviously weaker and not as experienced fighters while Andi and Michael were put against the toughest fighters. I think if it was fair matching Andi Hug would have easily this tournament. Great video Osu.

Didn't realize the Thai was Changpuek Kiatsongrit. For those who aren't aware Changpuek Kiatsongrit is the same Thai who nearly broke Rick Roufus's legs with low kicks during an American Kickboxing v. Muay Thai event in 1988- despite Roufus allegedly having broken his jaw with a wheel kick early in the fight. Kiatsongrit was no joke. Really speaks to the extent of Andy's abilities at that time that he was able to win that match as clearly as he did, though granted the points Kiatsongrit lost by throwing accidental punches to the face probably didn't help his predicament.
