Hi Nick, I've just pulled the trigger on my very first PRS, after being an Ibanez man for decades (although I always played a Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro live, which is a bit like a British PRS). I don't know if I'll regret this, but I went for a 24 fret PRS CE (bolt-on neck). What are your thoughts on 24 fret models, and the gain of having 2 extra frets versus the loss of a fatter tone on the neck pickup. Would you ever play a 24 fret model live? Cheers mate. It was your love of Ibanez that brought me to your channel a few years ago, and your awesome tones from your DGT and P90 PRS guitars that made me try one out!

@@ForViewingOnly oh cool. I’ve played a couple of those 24 fret CE’s and they sounded good. Best to judge very guitar by its own merit. I do prefer 22 frets though, just I just know where I am on it. I played regularly through years in cover bands in pubs, and did several years in a regular club band in Queen Street. Cannot read music, and never really tried because could imitate most things by ear. Always considered session players as the music readers and sight readers. And always considered you guys the next level. Have recently retired, having stopped playing many years ago as I was doing shift work. However, I am now considering having a go at learning music theory , as will have the time now, and have most of my gear, and all my guitars. Please keep up the KZbin videos as really incitefull.

Kia ora Nick and your followers. Any other quality clone suggestions? I’ll research the ones you mentioned. My TS9 has shat itself again today, as I was setting up for a gig at Dockside. I’m tempted to try the “salt water test”, i.e. throw it in the harbour and if it floats, it’s working. I’ve had it maybe 12 years and it’s been to Weta Guitars and Dexter Mods (twice) for maintenance (including installing a brighter light) over the years. I’ve got a DS1 and a 20 year old Hotcake (which has been thrashed and once sent to Paul Crowther for maintenance - he fixed it up and kindly didn’t charge me - A gentleman and an inventor!) and a Boss OS2 which was part of an auction I won, but has never been used. Time for a TS clone with a better switch, brighter light and hopefully more reliable gigging life. Chur, Wade.

A session musician is surely someone who is paid to play, live or in recordings, without actually being a member of a band/orchestra/group? And that'd be you, wouldn't it? The scene has certainly changed a lot in recent years, and I think the changes are accelerating if anything. Streaming has taken a lot of money out of the work, which is hard enough, but AI is very close to taking away the work itself - and that's bloody scary. It's not just musicians, of course. It's in all kinds of fields, from artists, actors, designers and photographers, through factory and fast food workers, to doctors, lawyers and accountants. How all this is going to re-shape society is yet to be seen and hard to imagine, but it is starting to happen already. I could be wrong, but I see the future for professional musicians as being in those areas that demand a distinctly human feel. Live gigs are an obvious example, but I think there will be an upsurge in niche recording, much along the lines of the current trend towards vinyl-only recordings. I feel that the more the technology is used to create "content", the hungrier people will get for that human element in music and the arts. At least, I sure hope so!

Having had the pleasure of playing with you over the years, Nick, I can say you're a hell of a performing musician and saying you play "gigs" underestimates that. I don't know about the session side of things but maybe that's just another kind of "gig" for a professional musician, which is what you are. You pose some interesting questions. It seems to have pretty creditable tutors and solid content, but it just doesn't appeal to me (even though, as an older guy, I'm part of what seems to be their target market). I tend to watch and listen to good players, like yourself, and occasionally hear something that makes me go, "I'm going to try working on that for a while". And example was the Sade number I mentioned, where I spent a few weeks working on her vocal phrasing and inflections - a really interesting challenge. Thanks for that one!
