Can I ask how often you water your seedlings? I live in Spain and have just planted six seeds which I took out of the pods. Two are about three inches high and three months old.
@gaiabonsai3 күн бұрын
Hello I keep the seedlings just moist if they are growing well. I live in quite a mild climate here in Cornwall UK. Thanks for watching :-)
@patriciagraham24343 күн бұрын
@ thanks for answering so quickly. Our local car park has dozens of these beautiful trees, in the summer they look magnificent. I’m just hoping I’m able to keep these two going.
@gaiabonsai3 күн бұрын
@@patriciagraham2434 I think your will grow much better in Spain than here in the uk. they seen to like more sunshine and hotter temps than we get here. I plan to plant them at together in 1 pot this year and see how they grow as a grove. I love the fact that the leaves close up at night or in overcast conditions. Wishing you all the best for growing yours :-)

@ Great :-) Good luck with your germination. Larches will germinate in the fridge ( moist chilling) Once several have germinated I move them somewhere warmer for the rest to catch up.
@aesotope15923 күн бұрын
@gaiabonsai Do you scarify first or soak them before chilling in the fridge?
@gaiabonsai3 күн бұрын
@aesotope1592 Hi I soak them first in a little warm water for about 12 hours. Then place them on the moist cotton wool in the fridge.

Good grief only 4 years old from seed!!!! That's incredible girth on the trunk. And to be honest even the "small" one is a great size. Very inspiring Julian! Thank you for making these videos. I'm going to give these a go next year. Probably late for this year to try.
@gaiabonsai9 күн бұрын
Thank you :-) The redwoods do like lots of water and this one I fed every two weeks with liquid feed. I give all the trees a feed of growmore solid feed on the soil surface in early may. They do prefer light shade as the leaflets will scorch in full sun and windy conditions. The full size seed tray is definitely worth trying as the roots spread out radially and pull the girth out quite fast. Will try a couple of the other large ones in washing up bowls this year. They have been the fatest growing of all the trees I have grown so far. Wishing you great luck with yours and your comments are always greatly appreciated. 💚
@luigiluigi20989 күн бұрын
@@gaiabonsailike that idea of the seed tray spreading the roots radially rather than downward as they would in a deep pot. Amazing work you do on your trees. Thanks for making videos have a great day sir!

Thank you for your kind comment it is much appreciated. For the two chinese elms after working on them they are on a bright winow sill in the kitchin. I can then enjoy them for a couple of months until they go back outside. Where I live in Cornwall UK, we do have quite a long growing season and very few frosts or snow. I will do an update to show them in leaf in 2-3 weeks. :-)
