I knew a woman whose 80 year old mother had a knee replacement surgery and a massive stroke on the operating table. Her mother was in a nursing home 2 months and died. Poor woman suffered severe pain from this surgery for 2 months and unable to communicate her needs. This surgery is not worth the risk when you are older. (Doctors & Hospitals want the money)

That is an unfortunate situation. It’s the physicians job to go over the risks of the procedure. If she had multiple medical problems or was at high risk for complications. Those things should have been addressed to the patient during consultations.

Whatever you may require to be done, stay away from the VA, whatever you do. Every surgical procedure I required turned into a nightmare for me. Most doctors are inferior. I have never felt this poorly after 22 yrs. of their care. It is almost impossible to see a specialist because they are very short handed, every where. It takes weeks in many cases, to get in front of one. Phone service is horrible too.

Did you fully recover after the Hip surgery?
@thomasnewton40402 ай бұрын
I had my total hip replacement about 10 yrs. ago. It never really came back as I thought it should. About 3 yrs. Ago, I required lower back surgery. This too leaves me in some considerate pain, also. Most recently , I had to have Cervical Spine surgery. This has devastated me since the surgery which was over one and a half yrs. ago. Still much pain and discomfort. Physical therapy 3 times a week, and still not getting better. My left leg and side are partially weakened and somewhat paralyzed. I am 77 yrs. old. The VA is trying to kill me, I think. Not enough good doctors or nurses there. They keep shifting me around and ask for another test. Don't know where to go from here. Thanks for listening to my plight. T. N.

I had swelling for long time, over a decade, maybe longer, pitted edema. I self-subscribed many treatments. Doc's thought those tormenting pressure socks would help as they did know cause. Those socks just transfer swelling! they do a darn thing!! For a recent infection, I got doxycycline. Edema disappeared and never returned. You may want to try it antibiotics if you don't know cause of swelling. May be bacterial.

What is the recommended split of time. This video could be described for either bed or wheelchair. It offers no help. This video ignores these elementary fact.

I had THR inmy meft hip on May 23. 6 weeks today but am still using a walker. Doctor sUd need ine fir first 2 weeks but therapist still has not said to use the cane instead. Maybe because my operated leg was an inch and half shorter ans the dictor legthened it to the right length. It feli a mike longer the first time I stood on both feet after surgery and the nurse saud it could take 3 months until I don't notice it. I had walked with wLjer firvseveral years before surgery, not putting weight on my left leg and when standing in my bThroom noticed when I had both feet on the floor my right knee was bent, so I knew the keft leg was shorter but not so much. I do use my cane when going into a store to shop and then use the shopping cart or an electric rider cart when the store has one. Is nice to be able to walk on my operated leg in the store. I told the therapist I did use my cane when shopping to go into a store and she is now wirking with me to use my cane. I am inno rush now because I have bad bakance and want to be safe when walking without a walker. Getting there slowly.

@@seniorhomecarehq6794 it is common practice now to send people home the same day after hip and knee replacement surgery. Our health care system is a mess and there are no hospital beds to keep patients for even a night. I'm 2 months post surgery, doing well, still have a few more physio appts left to try and improve things like going up stairs on that leg and getting up from a chair/toilet unassisted. The other hip is scheduled for Sept.

What I need is how can I decide, even when I am legally allowed to do so, if the person I care for is deteriorating ,but does not acknowledge that something is going on in their brain and are unwilling to be diagnosed? NO DIAGNOSIS! It is becoming dangerous, medication is left out or taken more of it than needed and causes harm to them ( too much of bloodpressure lowering medication , getting up from a chair and becoming unconscious for ex.). Forgetting where they have parked their car, going to the police claiming the car has been stolen. Eating 8 eggs at a time, calling their spouse belonging in a loony bin , name calling, etc. During good days they seem to act rationally, this can change from one minute to another. Steeling food from the fridge of their spouse , stopping a car insurance.
