Interesting how you figured they'd be using the full 13 engines most of the way, whereas in reality they switched to 3 much earlier. I didn't expect that either. Also, do you think the shock absorber slightly malfunctioned - was it potentially supposed to be more of a smooth padding like in your animation?

whats freaking insane to me is that the 2 puny 17cm diameter load points (which is probably about the same surface area of your hand) have to be able to withstand at least 3675 tonnes or between the two of them.. and they're also ball joints!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 😱😱😱😱 AND on the return flight the super heavy has to rotationally align correctly so that they'll land on them!
@imaginary_friend730015 күн бұрын
3675 tons? Rotation was never an issue, they have been doing that with f9 for years.

there is no real difference between landing a booster and catching it. it lands all the same just the "legs" it lands on are at the top and not the bottom of the booster
@imaginary_friend730015 күн бұрын
Some very real technical differences but the two acts are very similar and you could say they landed the booster on the arms more than you can say it was 'caught'.

I watched the recovery live. I could not believe how well the process went. It almost looked like it could be animated if I didn’t know it was true. These men and women really know how to accomplish the impossible. Now, if they could only figure out how to get good cell phone coverage.

15:44 So when they get to the point of rapid re-use they will need to catch ship while booster is already sitting on the OLM. How is that possible? Will they have to catch the ship with only one of the arms able to move?
@nolsp724025 күн бұрын
Pretty sure both arms can move up and to one side after the booster is set down on the olm.

@@alexanderx33Maybe they'll wait for the second tower? At any rate, I don't see this as a priority objective for them. We've all seen starship land on legs before. If it becomes operational, it's probably needs to go back to a VAB for reloading before being launched again.

Tip: Either get the camera to focus automatically or focus manually on the launch pad before the fireworks kick off. Then turn off autofocus. If you're focussed on basically infinity, then you shouldn't need to adjust the focus through the entire video, unless you accidentally nudge it.
