I'm mixed; Ukrainian and half Romanian. The war has been going on since 2014, I believe, when the invasion of Crimea started, but I still remember when it truly kicked off. Monsterous screams that you could hear during the news reports, people crying and begging as they were shot. My poor, beloved people were dragged and trampled on like they were rubbish. I yearn for the day I can see my people thrive, rather than die. I don't live in Ukraine, I live in the UK, but everyday I hear the news of citizens in my motherland being brutally murdered, thousands of children's hospitals being bombed as lonely widows cry due to the loss of their beautiful, young and ripe sons, along with their withering yet still handsome husbands. My mum’s friend went insane, her brother had died in the war while fighting and both her and her mother stay in denial. I'll see people make jokes about the war, and sometimes I'll even do it too, but it hurts. It hurts to know that your uncle has to fear going outside because of war police, it hurts to know that soon your cousin won't be safe due to his age, it hurts to know that everyone you knew before has now died and rest peacefully yet still bothered in their graves. It hurts, It stings, It almost even kills. I miss when my country was free. I miss when my country was happy. I miss my grandparents, my family, I miss having hope for this dreadful war to end.
