Marianne is the only woman who could deliver these lyrics with class, elegance and style. every now and then when I need some perspective in life I binge on Marianne's back catalogue, it always inspires me to look down on the fools who knock me,

I mean, she LAYS IT DOWN. Marianne Faithfull, bowing to this greatness is a given. I've known this song half my life now, and goddamn it is still SO raw and SO real and SO true. Thank you so much for being you!

my favourite MF song ever.....i played it over and over and over when i first bought the album. I felt her rage, felt every word.... I had lived every word! Couldnt beleive someone had put my feelings and thoughts into words and music in such a raw and real way. I'm 71 now and i can still feel every raw emotion when i listen to the song. Fucking amazing! So good to see others loving to too.

Grace Jones Private Life
@boruttrost57503 жыл бұрын
Yes, both songs are spoken, so there is a similarity, and there is a similar pace. But, lyrically, this is about jealousy and Private Life is about the opposite of jealousy - not giving a damn. Consequently, Marianne's delivery is passionate, Grace's is detached and cold. Marianne released this in '79, the Pretenders released Private Life in '80 and Grace covered it that same year. So "Why D'Ya Do It" came first. Anyway, Grace and Marianne are two of my favorite artists.
